People won't leave us alone I am not sure if this is common. I have a parti yorkie, she is 2.5 pounds. She is so cute. I am not sure because not very many people have small dogs but people won't leave us alone. Last weekend, I took her to the dog park. It is gated off. One part for small dogs, and another part for big dogs. people made such a fuss over cupcake. I was talking to a lady, and I turn around and see a little girl with cupcake in her arms, int the dog park section for big dogs. I am so mad. My baby could of been hurt. Then that same day we went to the mall. There is a new mall in San Diego that is dog friendly. Infront of each store, there are dog bowls will water, and a dog park in the middle of the mall and fire hydrants. I love it. Well as I was shopping people were picking her up. Is it okay for me to get up set? I think it is very rude, and it puts my dog at risk. Am I over reacting if I say something? Am I being over protective? Is it because parti- yorkies are rare? People always ask me what kind of dog she is, I am thinking maybe that is why there is a fuss. I don't want to be a grouch.:( I don't want to leave her at home, she is like my child |
DO YOU HAVE HER ON A LEASH? tell people its rude to just grab up someones dog without even asking dont do it! no your not overreacting . |
No you are right to tell them no do not pick her up what if they drop her? If you feel comfortable with them touching her tell them to get to her level or you pick her up and let them pet her. I Never let strangers pick mine up. I let them no with a pollite no and ask if they want to sit on the ground then they can see them. If they don't want to do that then tuff. It is not rude it is looking out for your pup. I don't own parties (I WISH) but mine get the oooos and ahhhhhs too. |
My little girl is tiny too 2.10 ounces and anytime I take her anywhere people just surrond me and one lady even grabbed her off the ground and said, "Can I have her", and she was serious as a heartattack I could not believe it. So don't feel bad your not the only one that gets upset I do to. I also think it is rude when someone just walks up and picks your dog up, the nerve of them. I'm okay if they ask first. Have fun it will now stop. |
I don't think you're overreacting at all. People shouldn't assume free-range for others' dogs. I can't believe that girl picked her up and took her into another area!!!!!!!!! Maybe you could say, if someone goes to pick her up, "oh, she's just recovering from an injury so I'm trying to not pick her up too much" - or - "I'm sorry, but she's afraid to be picked up by strangers, but you can pet her a bit". Something like that? She's just too dang adorable for her own good!!! Ann |
You have every right to tell someone not to touch her or pick her up without your permission. I get the same thing all the time with my dogs. People send their children to me to see the "puppy" and I always say right away...just look but please dont touch. I dont touch ANY dog without the owners permission...and yorkies shouldnt be an exception. So feel free to speak your mind..you are only looking out for her safety. Dawn |
What is a parti Yorkie? |
Both Chloe and I love the attention she gets. Everywhere we go, people rave about how cute she is. Chloe loves people--especially little kids. I don't let anyone pick her up, unless I know them. But I like her to meet new people. I think it helps her to be the well-socialized dog that she is.:) |

It's kinda like people feel the right to be able to touch your preggers belly. Complete strangers! very odd indeed. |
Is she on a leash when people pick her up the ground? I would tell them " Please don't carry her/him,he doesn't like it and tends to jump off" Sorry, but he's jumped out of someone's hands and hit the floor pretty hard" It actually happened once,Cookie got nervous and wanted to come to me so he leaped off the person's hands and smacked down on the ground. I don't mind if I am carrying him and someone wants to pet him. You have every right to get upset. I have seen adorable dogs and I go up to the pet owner and tell them that they are adorable and people are usually very nice. But I would never take them off the owner's hands or carry them off the floor. Genie |
I agree with you. She could get hurt, sick, who knows what. I would say that "the vet told me that she shouldn't be picked up, she's too young, so please give her to me," and take her right back. People tend to listen to directions if they're told nicely and there's no room for discussion. The price of being beautiful! Judy |

With me and my Quad-Squad it's leash or stroller outtings only! In some outtings, I've even had people and children poke at, tease or even try to release my furkids. And, short of being dragged away in handcuffs, believe me I made sure they knew how I felt! These little ones are easily injured and unknowing persons could easily do terrible harm even though having good intensions. So, I can definately understand how you feel... What burns me more is those folks that respond with "It's just a dog...Geez!" So, I say speak up if not asked to touch, play with or pick up your furbaby!!! Better to be safe than sorry... |
I don't think you are overreacting. That happens to me all the time with my puppies. It annoys me so much. Little kids always pick them up and run off with them and they don't know how to hold her. Grrr... I don't want to be mean, but those are my babies! |
its not because she a parti, its because shes a puppy and all puppies/dogs especially yorkies, are cute. and some people (especially kids) were never taught manners |
