| The "teen years" Spicy is 4 1/2 months and seems to be going throught that gawky adolescent stage. His hair is unruly...not quite long enough for a top knot but too long to just be cutesy. His color is also changing so he looks like a highlight job about 12 weeks out. Two minutes after brushing him, he looks all ragamuffin again. Anyone else have a puppy in this stage? At what age do their coats really take off and get the coloring and length? Poor guy, it just seems like he is right in the middle of the 7th grade...

| HAHAHA!! You just described Betty to a 'T'! She is just short of 6 months old. She has the cottony-type hair and it doesn't seem to be growing as quickly as the silky haired Yorkies does. It is kind of in a 'no-man's land'! LOL! And she definitely looks like she need a dye job BAD!! Her grayish roots are coming in big time. I comb it several times daily, but right after I do, it's messy-looking again. But, at least she doesn't have knots or tangles. She yells at me when I comb her. |

| Angel is there too!! She just turned 5 months old and seems to look like a raggamuffin right after I comb her (which she hates). She has just a small top knot and the rest of her looks like she either needs a haircut big time or like she is definitely in the growing out her hair phase!!

| Any idea on how long this "phase" will last? I've been looking at puppy pics on dogster to get an idea and it looks like things level out well by a year...is that about right?

| well harley is about 9 months and he is still the same as you have described except his hair is solid gray except for his head and legs which are golden. his hair stayed a mess so now i just keep it short. it never looked like it was going to get any better.

| Are you talking about my Chloe? lol That's EXACTLY how Chloe is! She's 5 months old tomorrow and her hair is so unruly. Her grandpa (my dad) calls her "scungebucket"

Chloe's hair also feels fluffy, like cotton (not wirey). Someone on here told me that she will be silky haired when her puppy coat grows out. The vet confirmed. So yours will probably also
