Hi I'm new here. I'm considering a Yorkie, but it wouldn't be in the near future. I want to learn more about the breed first anyway, and this looks like a great place to gain first-hand information about them. Anyway, there is something I've been wondering about: tan yorkies. I've seen a few completely tan yorkies before, and really liked that look. It looks as if that's not the standard though. Is this just a rare coloring in the breed that happens by accident, and is it thus discouraged? Or are there breeders who breed for just this color? I guess I'm wondering the chances of getting one with this coloring. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to YT. I am not sure if the all Tan Yorkies are rare or what the standard is about them but they are pretty. My girlfriend had one 6lbs and was all golden I guess you would say. Tiffany lived to be 16yrs. There is a member here who also has one.

Oh no, I meant rare as in what are my chances of getting one--as in is it simply a genetic fluke or are they common? I'm just interested in it because I like that color, not because I want one simply because it's "rare."

My girl Summerlin is just about all tan, but she is a yorkie chi mix, so that could have a lot to do with it. When I first got her, she had a good bit of black on her face and some down her back, but now almost all of her black is gone. She is a lovely golden color.... I hope that her color continues to fade until it is that beautiful blonde color that one owner on here has... but if it never does, I will be perfectly happy

In England the Kennel Club considers it a serious fault. If you want a puppy that colour as a pet then I don't suppose it matters. But over here one would be sold cheaper than one that would meet the Kennel Club standard on colour.

Yes they are pretty "RARE". I don't know of anyone who breeds for the color at this point. It is usually a fluke when yiou get one. I like the color also. the AKC term for that color is TAN, but they are usually referred to as "Goldens"
