microchip VS tatoo vs price? I am planning to microchip my dogs. or tatoo them just in case they get lost or stolen. How much did you pay for this? and which is better? any ideas?

Most vets will do microchipping for around $25. Check your local humane society too sometimes they offer that service for a small fee and you help their organization out too!

I just had both of my yorkies microchipped last weekend. It was $40 each and then another $50 to register both of them and my chihuahua (previously microchipped but not registered) with AVID (I think that's what it was called.

YIKES! That's high! I work for a vet and the Avid kit for microchipping is not expensive at all. My vet charges $25 and sometimes he'll offer it free if you buy a years worth of heartworm medications.

I read on YT this morning that Petsmart had a special .... the first 1000 got microchipped free..... I don't know if that was a local special or what... I don't even remember who it was.... My breeder microchipped my furbaby right before I picked him up.... so I didn't even have to feel guilty...

| Alright, not to freak anyone out or anything, but try to research microchipping before you do it. I have read several times that they can cause cancer. The microchip companies have not done tests to ensure their safety--to my knowledge. I am not saying that all dogs who are microchipped will get cancer, I am just saying that you should do research before you make a decision. Talk to a couple of vets. I really want to get my dogs microchipped as well, but now I am reconsidering.
