I don't know that I'd be brave enough to try an electric toothbrush on my dog, but I know that brushing their teeth makes a world of difference in the odor. When I got Gidget she had major dragon breath and now it's a lot better.

There are breath mints and Greenies (either ones they eat or ones they just chew on). That may help your Yorkie's breath. But yes, brushing their teeth will help too!

I got a blue gel toothpaste from my vet and it is SOOOOO easy to use. You just dab it on a piece of gauze and put it on each side of their mouth on the gum and it does all the work for you. You don't have to brush... thank heavens! There is no way Tino was going to let me "brush" his teeth. I think its called Maxi-Guard. He doesnt have bad breath at all anymore!

| That sounds like the stuff to use! Do you know if the vets is the only place you can get it? I have to say this thread made me giggle.

Here is the info from the bottle.... Its called Maxi/Guard. Oral Cleansing Gel. Reduces Plaque and freshens breath with or without brushing. Chlorhexidine Free; Natural Zinc and Vitamin C Forumla. I have only heard of it and seen it available for purchase through my vet, but the website on the bottle is www.addisonlabs.com I think it cost about $10/15, but it will last forever. AND Tino and Bunny actually like the taste of it!!! The directions say: "Place on drop on your index finger, swab or finger brush and applied on each side of the mouth will provide optimum pet acceptance in adult cats. Use slightly more for small dogs."

I agreed with Fasteddie, daily brushing, greenies and breath mint are very helpful. LvMyYorkie, TY so much for the link for that gel. I went thru the site and you can only get the product from a Vet. It seems like a very good product so I will ask my vet for it. I brush Guccis teeth but she fights so much sometimes I wonder if Im cleaning her teeth at all, So this product is an aweosome solution.

Here is the contact infi in case you vet doesnt carry it: 1-800-331-2530 or email info@addisonlabs.com It looks like they have an even newer product... MAXI/GUARD® OraZn® - is the first home dental care product for dogs, cats, and exotics offering neutralized zinc (pH 7) in hydrogel form. Neutralized zinc is a patented combination of select amino acids and zinc. Taurine and zinc gluconate form a complex bond that inhibits the precipitation of zinc in the neutral pH (6.8-7.2) range and the hydrogel adds mucoadhesion. In this narrow pH range an oral zinc preparation delivers increased bioavailability. Many veterinarians have experienced the unique topical benefits of Zn7™ Derm. Zn7™ is one of today’s most popular dermatological topicals. OraZn® is Zn7™ for the oral cavity. OraZn® is packaged in 2oz. soft squeeze bottles with built-in applicator tips. How Does it Work? - Zinc is an essential trace element and a component of about 300 metallo-enzyme systems. Many of these enzymes play key roles in extra-cellular matrix remodeling, gingival healing, connective tissue repair, inflammation and cell proliferation for repair processes. With increased bioavailability, the zinc readily permeates plaque and oxidizes anaerobic bacteria. Taurine chelates with sulfur compounds and absorbs malodorous activity eliminating halitosis.
