| 2 questions Hi Everyone, I was wondering what kind of brush i should be using? I have tried two different types now and brush him daily, but he is still getting matts under his legs. Also, He will NOT let me cut his nails, and they are getting long! Any tricks that you all have used for pups that don't like getting their nails trimmed? Thirdly, At what age did you all first get the first grooming? He is 5 months now and i'm thinking it might be time soon. I don't want him shaved, just trimmed up. Is this too early? Any advice is welcomed and needed!!! |

| I clip Lily's names but she hates it. I usually set her up on the counter and put a towel or somethind down and I take a plastic bag and place one paw in the bag and push the nails through so the hair is pushed back and all that shows is her nails. It goes a lot quicker for me since she hates her nails clipped. I think the rule is you can begin grooming as soon as all your shots are recieved. Its never to soon to start grooming even if its a little at a time so they get use to it.

| I use a pin brush without the little balls on the tips and it keeps my boyz tangle free. I also use a natural boar bristle brush. Try laying him on his back to trim his nails...that's the only thing that worked for our first Yorkie. No, 5 months isn't too early for a trim but you might want to see if the groomer will allow you to stay and 'supervise' so they don't get carried away. |

| I also like to use a metal comb with wide-spaced teeth at one end and fine-teeth at the other end. I think they're great to work out any mats.

My furkids Donating Member | My girls aren't real good about nail cutting...this is what I do....when I am giving them a bath I put water in the sink, just enough to cover their feet. I shampoo and rinse them...by the time I put the conditioner on their nails have had a chance to soak and soften...this way they don't make such a load "click"...I have found this makes it much easier to cut the nails and, where they are in the sink they can't get away! Sadie was HORRIBLE about nail cutting..once I started soaking her feet it made easier on her AND me. I use a pin brush in the morning and at night when sitting I put some cowboy magic on the matts and use a slicker brush, I take small sections of hair and brush from the end in...I get alot of matts out this way.

as far as the nails, try blind folding him, he will be to busy trying to get the blind fold off to worry about you cutting his nails. and he is old enough to go to the groomers, just find someone very trust worthy, ask for references. | |

| I am always too nervous to cute any of the little dog's nails. So they get a pop in visit to the groomers. Pretty cheap done that way. I have started taking my Yorkie to the groomers once month so she gets hers done then. Some day she is going to have hair. LOL

right now I am using the clippers that kind of look like a pair of plyers (don't know how else to explain them) if you google quick finder it will bring up the site with the new clipper that is coming out...Actually if you go to search, here on YT it may bring up the site. you can add your name to the list and they will let you know when the "quick finder" is available.
