So was anyone on this site greatly affected...I check posts all day but I don't remember seeing anyone have a pet not make it through or get sick?!

I feel so bad for the owner of Pebbles...and everyone else who had to deal with this horrible incident.

I feel like I just got kicked in the gut! That POOR POOR baby and his/her family.

That photo is heart-wrenching. Reminds me of my own little guy when he was so sick. (NOT related to the food tainting.) If you've ever had a baby in ICU, you no doubt know that pitiful look and are familiar with the sight of the IV leg ...

But the poison entered into the US through the wheat gluten.
It doesn't mean all shipments of wheat gluten is bad.

We have chemicals for use as cleaners/pesticides that they don't have. And vice versa. I fail to see the connection of how this is another reason to not buy products from China, just because it is a chemical that isn't allowed in the US.

If China doesn't have the controls we have...why didn't our US standards check the wheat gluten? If our standards were so great, we would've caught it.
I'm guessing that maybe the wheat gluten wasn't treated or checked as closely since it wasn't for "human" consumption but it is just a guess. I hope this is a wake up call for the inspectors!! Maybe this will alert the ones that are responsible for this to start checking everything out and quite worrying about just the bottom line.

I know exactly what you mean (not related to the food recall either)..I have never seen a more pitiful sight than my baby (at that time) weighing 9 oz just hanging on for life with the little iv and his little gauze the size of a green bean..so sad and his little shaved "lion" paws afterwards...I just kept thanking God every day after he pulled through..still do to this day...I just feel so bad for the people having to face this right now as we speak.

DITTO........Im praying for that poor little baby and his family! How can people be so sick as to taint pet food....This is a very sick world that we are living in and its getting worse all the time. I would just love the person or persons who are responsible for this in front of me for just one minute! They'd have to lock me up! I hope and pray that they get caught and are used as an example to other sicko's and are punished beyond the fullest extent of the law!

I don't know - I've got a call in to my vet to see if this may be what happened to Baby Caddo (died last month, no positive diagnosis).

I can't imagine how many people are dealing with the same such emotional pains - pets dying and not even knowing what happened. And then they blame themselves - I know I have... Did he not have enough water? Did I not feed him enough? Did he get infected with something while going outside to pee? Did I expose him to something in the house?

My heart hurts for all those little pets involved - canine or feline, yorkie or not. And my heart hurts for all those owners who are now missing a part of their lives forever....

Kinda makes me wonder what else that wheat gluten ended up in. SCARY! It's funny how so many pups have been sick lately, with no firm diagnosis. I wonder if it's in other foods that they aren't mentioning:eek:?

that is exactly what i am terrified of finding out in a few days...for the news to say, btw, its in all these also...good god lets pray that doesnt happen.

OMG That is so sad. The look on Pebble's little face is way too familiar for me....Vivi has been so sick and dealing with kidney issues related to her liver shunt...I know how devastating that look can be. At this moment her little legs are cut in the lion style as well ...I feel so bad for the owners and pets affected by this tragedy. To think you are trying to feed your pet a healthy diet and now worry that you may have accidentally poisoned them...it is a nightmare.

Well, my vet said the poison is mostly causing kidney failure, and they were finding more signs pointing towards a liver shunt in Baby Caddo - so he said his educated guess would rule out the food poisoning. That kinda makes me feel a little better in that he didn't die because I gave him food that poisoned him - although if that were it, knowing would probably help put closure to the whole thing, too.

Still, I can't quit thinking of all those sick pets and heart-broken humans...

I am so sorry about baby caddo but you do not need to blame yourself...you were a wonderful mother. some of these things are out of our hands...
