OMG. To think I might have fed my baby Gracie rat poison? And my cats too? What gives with importing wheat from other countries. We have lots of wheat growers here. The almighty buck, maximize profits any way they can.

Poor Pebbles, :( :( It said in the picture that he lost his battle with kidney failure on 3/23 (today ) after eating that tainted food. This is just HORRIBLE. The government needs to put stricker regulations on dog and cat food. :mad: :mad:

This is so horrible. How did this happen?? How did rat poison get in the food? My heart aches for those whose babies got sick

That's exactly what I said! They said the manufacturing plant wasn't in Canada - it was here in the U.S.A. To save a few pennies, they imported wheat that killed (I heard last night on TV around seven hundred and some) pets. They could have had all of the wheat they wanted here.

I wonder if it would be any different when making bread for humans.

I think the whole thing is horrid. I am stumped as to why we would need to import wheat from anywhere! Don't we have enough here? It is probably cheaper from China and money is king in this country isn't it.

I am SO outraged by this, especially after seeing the picture of poor little Pebbles, the Yorkie that died this morning. I think Menu Foods have been hiding this a LONG time and could have prevented SO much needless suffering, both for the animals and their owners. I mean REALLY! Did those wretched animals dying in their labs not give them A CLUE!!!???%^&*! I mean, G*d Forbid they should have lost a few bucks and pulled their products off the shelves - but I suppose what's a few pet lives, when they're compared to their almighty profits?

In the end, as a business...it is about their bottom line. Go to your supermarket right now. Notice the grapes imported from Chile? The white corn from Mexico.

We could produce it here. But it is more expensive to do so.
Nothing new, in the world of business and economics.

And US grain...the excess...the govt pays the farmers to BURN the excess. Nothing new.

I just heard that the rat poison was from the wheat from China! It is a chemical they use but isn't allowed in the US so many vets will not know about it. They suggested a urine test and a renal test if suspected that your baby is acting sickly after eating any food that was on that list. This is just another reason not to buy from CHINA! THey do not have the controls that we have here. It was not a disgruntled employee.
My babies all acted sickly after eating a few bites of some canned food that wasn't on that list and they are now on antibiotics and doing better but it was at the same time all this other stuff was becoming known. We had the fecal test run and they all had an ecoli strand identified. It really scared the #### out of me!! They are all find now, TG!! i threw that can out immediately and they are on their regular food now.

HUGE mistake? Yes it is.
Much like the surgeon and medical staff that forget to count all of their instruments in the surgery room...and leave a clamp in a patient.

The mistake can be under control. Yes. That is why the FDA and companies randomly check their product. But again...it is random. There will always be a chance, statistically speaking.

Think about the recent US Treasury. The recent dollar coins that went into circulation w/ an error. It is random. The "error" coins passed numerous check systems. But they made it into circulation. Just an example...

So the "contaminated" wheat gluten traveled from China to Canada or the US to be used as an ingredient in production.

The poison itself isn't allowed in the US.
But the poison entered into the US through the wheat gluten.
It doesn't mean all shipments of wheat gluten is bad.

We have chemicals for use as cleaners/pesticides that they don't have. And vice versa. I fail to see the connection of how this is another reason to not buy products from China, just because it is a chemical that isn't allowed in the US.

If China doesn't have the controls we have...why didn't our US standards check the wheat gluten? If our standards were so great, we would've caught it.
