If you let this poor Yorkie outside , you'll exactly do to him what you say peoples do to you .

i have a shepherd who is soooo spoiled he hates being outside. He will go out when we are out there but otherwise he is content being in with us. My yorkie is an inside dog as well. I dont think any dog should be left out all day and all nite. They need companionship and warmth. Also you have to be careful when buying a dog that has not been socialized it will be hard to train a dog that only knows life being penned up like that. Not saying it's impossible but will be hard.

I haven't read all of the rest of this thread yet, so sorry if I am being redundant - but here are my thoughts so far.

We don't have a fence in the front yard either, but I just walk Peanut on a leash outside. I like that better than letting him run around unattended anyway, so I can make sure he doesn't get into any trouble. I also have a tie-out stake that I use when I am gardening, etc. outside so Peanut can hang out with me outside. (But I only use it when I am with him - never to tie him outside unattended or for long periods of time and I always make sure he has a bowl of water within reach too). If it is cold when you go out, I recommend a sweater/shirt to help them stay warm since they are so small.

I agreed Yorkies are not Outside dogs. I dont know how this poor pup has survive and is not ill being outside. If you want to rescue this pup be prepared he might need a lot of training. If you can not take care of him the proper way, i wouldnt return him to this lately either. I think taking him to a Yorkie rescue is best for him, JMO. I know you are young and you love yorkies, but remember A yorkie is a living Thing and deserves the same care you expect for yourself. IS not a Toy. If you and your parents decided to take this pup, he is going to need a lot of loving.

I'm sorry is this sound rude....but like was stated above me a yorkie is NOT A TOY...it is like having a baby...and justs because your friends "buddy up" and leave you does NOT mean that you should get a dog...it's almost like the 12year old girl who wants someone to love her so she has a baby..and then has no idea on all the time, money and attention that the baby needs. Only with her parents HELP and their DEVOTION can she raise that baby...and it's basically the same thing for the yorkie..THEY ARE ALOT OF MONEY...trust me I am young (24)..I have a college degree and my bf and I work full-time and still we find ourselves wondering how have we spent so much money???...vet bills..if they are not feeling good or need shots are high..emergency vet bills are HIGHER and GOD FORBID something is wrong with the dog from being outside..tooth decay, liver problems etc..the vet bills are phenomenal..are your parents willing to pay all of this..for your playmate?...then you have to add in the dog food, toys, tooth car, bathing products, training pad etc..and it is alot of responsibility that should be taken not because you want a playmate but because YOUR FAMILY wants an additon to the family and everyone wants to help out and take care of him..What ahhpens when you go back to school?...if he hasn'ty been potty trained and he is now 2....what makes you think in 3 months you will be able to accomplish this feat...even once he is potty trained yorkie still have accidents..will this be okay? I know it's hard because you are young and immature but please think about the bigger picture here.

This little Yorkie is not Schatzie with Daisy. She is my beloved Half-Pint who passed away. Sweet isn't she? She remains in my heart always :p

201: At the risk of sounding rude, you say you know everything about yorkies. If this is the case how could you suppose that leaving a yorkie outside even in the winter would be OK. I don't know you but I have come to understand that you are a very young member. I am 35 and own a yorkie and have a family. There are days when all the responsibilties are piling up I just want to hide away from it all but I don't have my parents around to bail me out. A yorkie is just like a baby. Just this morning I had to wake up at 7 AM after going to bed at nearly 3 to take the dog to pee, feed him and play with him. This weekend I will have to drop hundreds of $$$ for vet, vaccinations and supplies not to mention the $$ to cleann my rugs at the drycleaners from the pee. It's endless. You also have to look to the future. Yorkies live a long time. You can't take a yorkie to dorm. Teenage years can be tough and lonely and you will love your doggie when you get it, but please make informed and educated decisions. Good Luck

IMO, I think it's very selfish to bring a dog to your home, just to have it live out in your yard. Good question, WHY??? Dogs need far more attention than someone showing up once a day to quickly feed, water and clean up after.

I know that you want a yorkie bad. Who can blame you? But I honestly think that you should wait until you are out of school and out on your own. I had always wanted a yorkie, too and didn't get one until I turned 30. Just be patient.
