| We're New Hi Everyone!!! I just joined this site today and I hope to learn a lot as well as contribute. I rescued a wonderful little lady named Pixie last September. She is seven years old and has delivered six litters of puppies. Yeah, she was rescued from a dreaded puppy mill. She only has two teeth and has cataracts in both eyes. She spent her life in a small cage so small that she couldn't stand up so the cartilage in her ears was broken therefore her ears don't stand up like her other Yorkies. She is the sweetest animal I've ever known despite what all she's been through. I forgot to mention she had been in four foster homes before I rescued her. She doesn't trust anyone but me as of yet. We're working on it though. I have a 3 year old Westie named Jasmine who helped us welcome her into our home. Jazzy is the pack leader but that's fine with Miss Pixie. They are a lot alike and I just love Terriers. The girls share my love with my grand dog, Motorhead. Motorhead is my son's St. Bernard who is a big (143 pound) baby. He is just over a year old. On weekends my other son brings his furry friends over. He's the dad to a Weimaraner, Bailey and two Siberian Huskie, Jake and Jessie. So you can image what fun we all have. I just wanted to check in with everyone and introduce myself. Actually, I do have a question. I'm wondering how you members have your Yorkie groomed. Do you keep their coat long or cut it short? Pixie's is getting really long and unruly. I brush her constantly. Her bangs are in her eyes and a bow doesn't last long. She rolls around until she loses it. My Westie has a Westie cut which is quiet different from a Yorkie look. Thanks in advance for your input.

| Welcome to YT! I joined in January and find the information very informative. I can't really answer your question about grooming since my little guys is still a baby and has only been groomed once and that was just around the face and anal area. Can't wait to see pictures of Pixie. |

| First let me welcome you to YT. Second let me tell you what a very special person you are to give the precious pup a loving home. Poor baby she has been through hell and back. You'll get lots of help when ever you need it here. You can check the grooming threads for ideas for grooming. Type in grooming in the search tab above or just click on a grooming thread to the right. I trim Buddy's hair between his eyes with a Wahl moustache trimmer. I run it up gently between his eyes and then trim the hair above the brows. It grows long on the sides but this allows his eyes to be clear of hair. Everyone does it differently. Good luck and again welcome. Post pictures when you can. |

| Welcome. I'm so glad that you found Miss Pixie. What a wonderful person you are. I just keep the hair trimmed out of my two's faces and of course around their butts. I'm thinking about getting them cut though before the summer as we are in GA and it's get's quite hot. I have trimmed the lenght of their hair just here recently especially for Wyatt I got tired of him smelling like pee. Good luck with your baby she is a sweetheart. Meant to ask exactly what part of KY are you from. I'm originally from SW VA not too far from Pikeville in a little town called Whitewood not a red light in site. Anyway, again welcome.

| Welcome! Thanks for sharing your story! I'm so thankful that Miss Pixie found a wonderful mommy like you to love her. Sounds like she's been through too much in her young life.... I have my yorkie groomed, cause I'm too chicken to do it myself I keep Vixxen in a long coat and I tend to use the tiny scrungies in her hair because she will rub her head on something as soon as I do a bow and the scrungie is easy to re-do and I really stays in. So many have their babies in a shorter coat though, with the head cut so there is no top knot...and I personally think they look just as cute! Do you have any pictures??

| Yes, I have pictures Oooh everyone has made Me and Pixie feel so good. Pixie is the luckiest dog in the world even if I do say so myself. Poor girl she has had a rough time. I belong to the SBRKY which stands for Small Breed Rescue of Kentucky. The lady who started the group is so special. The stories she can tell about her rescued babies will make you cry. I don't even want to go there with you all. So sad. Pixie says "thanks" to me in so many ways. We love her so. Everyone can rest assured that she is the TOP dog at our house. She goes everywhere I go. She has a bed in every room. She must think she's died and gone to heaven. I encourage anyone who can to adopt a rescue. The experience has been so rewarding for us. Now I want a puppy though. Thanks for all your replies and answers to my grooming questions. Been a big help. Since I'm new, I'm wondering how everyone gets their signatures to look so good and the avitars to change. When I worked on my signature I didn't know what I was doing. I did a search to find out more, but it didn't help much. I'd appreciate some help. I love to learn new things. I'll send some pics after I shrink them. LOL |

| I live in Southeastern Ky in Rockcastle County. The closest town is Brodhead about 3 miles away. It has no stoplights. You may have heard of Renfro Valley. It's a county music place with shows etc. I live about five minutes from there. I-75 goes right through my county.
