| ![]() yes the scanner can detect a chip being there but if the facility doesn't own the right kind of scanner for that brand of chip it's of no use because they can't match anything with the owner. We've had this happen a couple times and had to send the dogs to a vet or to read the chip with the appropriate scanner.

| ![]() I actually just had my Nicky microchipped last week. I found that Petsmart is the best deal. If you go in on their free walk-in times then you only have to pay $30 to have the microchips inserted. Petsmart uses their own brand and they implant 2 chips. I guess there isn't a standard out there and microchips of 125mhz and 135mhz are implanted. Not all animal hospitals and vets have the equipment to scan both of these. They either have one or the other. Sooooo.....Petsmart implants both so that the dogs can be scanned anywhere they go. I think that is a great deal! My vet was going to charge $80 for just one chip. |
