do you bow and ribbon your little boys??? i can't tell you how many times i have seen a little cute yorkie puppy and think "how cute she is" only to find out it is a boy! i see this alot and i am assuming that people feel this is ok since they are not big dogs. i just can't imagine doing that to romeo. if i could find a masculine item maybe but little flowers i just would not do. does anyone sell items for boys? |
You can find some very cute boy bows online. Katy's bows sells sports theme bows https://shop.katybows.com/splashPage.hg and I hae seen soem really cute ones on ebay too. I have some cute things for Ben but he just refuses to leave anything in his hair. I have boy bows and unisex clips but nothing stays. I think he has made a deal with Sadie and they take each other's out within minutes of me putting them in. I am about ready to give them both a puppy cut! |
If I had a boy, I would. I'd only use boy colours, though. |
This question comes up entirely to often, lol. :) |
It's the great to be or not to be question! I have a boy too and haven't decided on using one on my Spanky yet. |
i would surely do a boy type bow..... if i could get one on him  |
My little guy, Max, is in full coat and would never see a thing if I didn't put up his hair, so I go ahead and put clips or bows on that are blues or the traditional yorkie red. Since his skirt is so long anyway people can't really see his "guy stuff" so no matter what gender they refer to, I just say thanks unless they ask me a specific question. I can't believe how many non-Yorkie owners just assume that if the dog is in full (long) coat that it is a girl. |
Murfee's daddy says "no way" is his boy wearing a bow, or ponytail. We keep in a puppy cut but every once in awhile I let it grow a little and try a ponytail but somehow it always disappears. |
I put bows in my boy's hair, woulden't have it any other way!! He is kept in a long full coat so you have to have the topknot with it. I do only put boy colors on him like blue and black. I love the look of the show yorkie which is a long coat with a topknot and a bow. After all, you see all the show yorkies wearing bows and majority of them are males. |
I have a boy and I agree- I only put VERY masculine bows :p My boyfriend said no way in the beginning but he loves Ralfie's hair the longer it grows, and he knows to keep it out of his eyes I need to use something! Actually, I very rarely use a bow tho. Normally I use I rubber band (the little dental kind they sell in the grocery store) or a miniature barrette. Somehow I justify this to myself as more masculine LOL. Seriously though, if we're going to apply our society's gender biases to yorkies, the poor males might as well just give up now. As jlyn pointed out, if they are going to be kept standard to their breed, their hair will be long and they will have a top knot. Male or female. If people have a problem with that and feel the need to use their dog to "man up", they should get a pit bull. IMO, a real man shouldn't feel threatened by a small dog's accessory. |
Thank You!!!!!!!!! Quote:
Thank you!!!!!! You have mirrored by sentiments exactly. A Yorkie is a Yorkie. Look at the standard, and don"t worry about others ideas. It MY dog and I'll do what I want with the hair, and if somebody can"t "get it" well........ After 40 years of Yorkies in our marriage, I am thankful to have a husband whose manhood is not based on how his dog is dressed(or not dressed). On the other side of the coin is the health and cleanliness issue. Hair in the eyes can cause some icky problems, and I also would miss looking into those loving, playful little eyes that my furbabies flash so well. |
By the way........Mikey is quite the handsome little dude. |
my boys have bows in there top knots Henry and Cameron have bows , hair clips, there so cute even if they are boys,,,,,:animal-pa fancypants |
Hee hee!! Why thank you! That's actually Ralfie in the avatar tho, Mikey is me (or Michael, to be more precise;) ) To make a long story short, my mother's brother is named Michael and she vowed to name her first child Michael. As luck would have it I was a female, and my parents thought it would be super cool to have a daughter with a boy's name:rolleyes: . Elementary school wasn't fun, and the internet can make things confusing, but for better or worse, people always remember it! As for your husband, I COMPLETELY agree. Once you start taking care of these little guys you realize its not just a fashion accessory. And even if it was- so what? :D |
everyone always assumes all yorkies are girls anyway lol. I put a bow on Peeka he is a yorkie and yorkies have bows lol i always use boy colors though i love it i don't care what anyone says the show dogs ware bows and so does Peeka lol. Now i don't dress him in girl stuff...well... ok ok only when i need him to model something that won't fit Daisy but he wares it for a few min to get a pic and thats it lol. |
