The recall is just for 'canned' food of those brands listed, correct? |

MSN.com has an article that includes the title below: 60 million containers of pet food recalled Eukanuba, Iams and store brands tied to kidney failure, deaths http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17650075/?GT1=9145 I didn't see Eukanuba and Iams on that list. |
Yup, more reason to cook their meals myself. Am going to the bookstore today for some new recipes:) |
Unfortunately you will see a lot more of the same thing with the deaths of animals that die and have a direct link to dog food. However, have you ever wondered why dogs are dieing of liver, kidney and heart problems and cancers at epidemic porportions? How about allergies. I've never seen so many allergy dogs. All these dogs have one common denominator...........dog food. Dead, diseased, lab, farm animals that have been pumped full of chemicals and hormones, and road kill all go into a boiling pot. The chemicles cannot be boiled out and this goop is made into more feed for farm and companion animals. It's always being re-cycled. We humans are dieing from cancers at epidemic porportions too, and it's no wonder. Look at the red meat we eat, and look at what that cow ate. I always ask people to buy free range meats. Sorry to go on like this, but we need to take charge and save our companion animals and ourselves. Doctors and Vets. have a purpose, but not when it comes to giving medication all the time and not wanting to get to the root of the problelm. We don't live in a perfect world, so we need to fight harder at using caution about what we put into ours and our companion animals mouths each day. |
There's a group at dogster called "Home cooked food and recipes" that has some information on how to make a nutritionally complete dog food. There is some great information there and some really helpful people. I picked up the Pitcairn book, and it wasn't for me. It's on both dog and cat food, and when it made the suggestion to feed cats a vegetarian diet, they lost my confidence, as cats are true carnivores...but I digress. |
Thank you sooooo very much for posting the Menu Foods and MSN websites. No wonder I love Yorkie Talk so much. I can ALWAYS rely on you guys for anything relating to my precious babies.:yorkietal |
Dr. Pitcairns book has vegetarian and meat recipes. He shows how you can feed both ways and still have the same neutrition even for a carnivor. His book is loaded with a wealth of information and how to cure so very many things that are such a common occurance these days. Don't just read one thing and decide it isn't for you. Go back and read all the other wonderful things in it. |
Oh great My dogs just started eating Nutro |
Damn! I just bought nutro max puppy!!!! I click on it but nothing hapens. Is it just canned??? I bought hard. I'm freaking out a little here! |
Oh my! I hope it's just the canned food bc so many people on here feed Nutro! |
I think I'm pulling mine up and tossing it. Brand new huge bag! I'll go back to chicken soup. |
I have some of the food on that list. I was reading about the code date and plant code. Does anyone know where I can find these code on the packet? Thanks for the help. stephanie |
I see several nutro's on that list but not nutro ultra, so is nutro ultra okay? Thats what I feed my girls and Im really worried |
It says to look at the manufactuaring date. just click on then name of the dog food and then the date by what size and it will tell you wether or not you have an "infected can" or not |
Is it just the canned food or is it kibble too |
It is definitely just the canned food. The dry kibble is OK. I feed my Mango the Nutro Natural Choice Small Bites Puppy, |
The list is not complete! On my local evening news, they said there are over 80 brands impacted by this recall. Only 49 are listed on the web site. Iams and Eukanuba were included in the TV spot. They think the problem may be related to the wheat gluten. I think Gracie is sticking with the ProPlan canned puppy and Merrick's, neither have wheat Gluten. She is also just finishing a bag of Nutro Ultra. I don't think I trust Nutro anymore and will be transitioning her to a good quality adult kibble, like Royal Canin or Merrick's. Avoid the wheat gluten! |
Its just the canned food and the wet food foil pouches so far. If your unsure of your pet food brand I suggest calling that company or going directly to their websites.. |

The recall in the Nutro line affects only WET foods that are of the chunk and gravy type. That does include ALL NUTRO ULTRA CANNED foods, as well as ALL POUCHES. ALL kibble in the Nutro Natural Choice, Max, and Ultra lines are safe as are the small dessert cans and any dog or cat food that is of the pate' form. This information comes directly from the Nutro website. www.nutroproducts.com |
Please excuse.... The Nutro Ultra Large Breed Puppy and Adult Kibbles do havve wheat, but I doubt that our Yorkies would be on the large breed formula. Again, The kibbles are safe. Sorry for the boo-boo. |
List of foods that have been recalled! My dogs have been eating Nutro Natural kibble their entire lives--my oldest girl is 17 years old and lookin/feelin just great! |
when i click on nutro it gives you the upc number and i have two cans that the upcs are on that link ohhh my goodness this is so scary although i have been giving him dry food for the past couple of months so scary |
Well I didn't want to take any chances and I got rid of my nutru max puppy and went back and bought Chicken soup, which was what I was using. I just don't want to take a chance. They are eating the kibble and not the canned, but still....just being cautious. |
I'm tossing the Nutro Natural Choice Small Bites Lamb & Rice. I've been feeding this for a few months now, and this week our dogs have been throwing up. The vet says it's not serious unless they get dirrhea, also, but after seeing this recall, I'm just not taking any chances. Back to Innova or something else!!! |
I used to feed Starsky and Shylah the Nutro foil packages a few months ago. That was when I couldn't get Shylah to eat anything. I would mix it with their Nutro kibbles. They haven't had it in over 3 months I think. Should I be worried? What should I be watching for? Their stools are fine and no vomiting. Anything else? I think I may change their kibble too. I know they like the Solid Gold wee bite food. It may cost more, but it is worth it to me. |
skoshi ate some of the infected pouches about a week ago. he only ate like maybe 2 bowls and then he woudnt touch it. since then all i feed his is royal canine and chicken. but he hasnt been sick or anything should i call my vet just in case? |
I found out I have 10 pouches of the Nutro Natural Choice Chicken & Rice but Petco said to just bring them back. Our little baby was sick last week and had to take her to the vets. Intestinal Bacteria infection with symptoms that were described by eating those foods. She was dehydrating so they had to give her shots of glucose under the skin, and she was on flagyl for 5 days. She's ok now, thank God , and Im sending the Vet bill with the returned food packets for $81, just to show them I went thru a terrible time with her. She's only 5 lbs. and quite a fighter to get better. So we been feeding her white meat chicken breasts, white rice, over her Royal Canin now loves the food. I hope they find the cause of the problem, just think all these dogs and cats are going to have to find something else to eat all of a sudden... If that were me I'd be very upset also. I hope everyone checks their shelves and brings back the food for refund. Petco said , no questions will be asked, I don't have the receipt for the 10 pks. I remember when Chicken Soup was recalled, she loved that too. Good luck to all, just wanted to 'bump up here'. |
Bella was sick a few weeks ago and i noticed she would go sniff the food and walk away... normally she loves it! I guess she was trying to tell me something. I checked the dates on the list we dont have any of the cans recalled but I'm throwing them out just be safe! I'm calling the vet just to make sure! From now on im making my own food!!! |
