| Questions on color of new puppy Ok, so I posted pics of my new baby Roxy (in my yorkie thread). She is 8 weeks, but I am trying to guess what color she will end up, I know it is early and you never can tell but her parents look completely different, mother is very light like blond and silver and the dad is gold and black. I parted the hair on her head and there is no gold or tan at all. At the roots it looks like it may be silver? Not sure but it looks light. Her skin(scalp) is very light too. |

| She can go either direction, I think. 8 weeks are very early to tell, as their coats change up to 2 years...My pup started growing out his baby coat early, by the 4th month all black was gone in place of light silver, almost white some places!! But now he got darker, he's getting steel gray and he'll be probably darker than that

| Do you mean like at the back of her ear? I see a couple of goldish color hairs, but most of it looks really light. |

| Yes, at the back at the base of the ear. If it's getting light there, it's good indication the head will clear nicely

| Some don't clear to a nice gold/tan as described in the standard. They remain smutty with the face being intermingled with black. On the YTCA.org page their is an illustrated standard, that explains it clearly. Also Joan Gordon's book explains coat texture and color.

| Oh, ok thanks! I'm anxious to see what color she turns out because her mom is so light but dad is dark. |

| Dams usually go light, getting lighter, especially after every season. Dogs hold their color longer.
