Buddy has been sleeping with me for 2yrs. A couple of times over the
past month he seems to be getting very fresh in bed. He had a nighmare
I guess last week and went after me with the lights out. Thankfully he did
not bite me but seemed to be just threatening me for whatever reason.
He now is growling at me when I move at night. I have had it.
Tonight he goes into his own bed next to mine so I guess I will be up half the night until he settles in. I will not allow him in my bed anymore. He is a big boy and I don't want to be afraid of my baby. I think because he is now 3yrs. he's just trying to be alpha again. He has tried this in the past and so far has lost.
He is a wonderful smart loving Yorkie. Does this have anything to do with being male? Any other suggestions why this may be happening? Why
is this breed so challenging? He seems to always want a challenge!

I am too old for this nonsence. I feel so bad doing this but I know it
has to be done. He loves people and children and just loves company.
He is always on my lap and give kisses constantly. I am at a total loss.
Any help out there?

I just wrote back to you on another post about this. My dog Reese is a female. She is super friendly to EVERYONE!! She loves people, other dogs..major lap dog. She is about a year old. About a month ago she started doing the same thing. In the middle of the night I moved and she got up and growled and snapped at me. She didnt bite me or even come close enough to do that..just like you said..almost a threat. She has done it a few times since then..on the couch if she is sleeping and in bed at night..I am at a loss too..She is such a sweetie. I was afraid something was wrong with her, but I have chalked it up to her being a brat!!! Guess its not a male thing!!

I wish I could help you. That's just sad for both of you. I haven't the slightest idea what is going on. Do you or could you use night lights in the room (if they don't bother you)? Like I said, I really wish I could help. Talk to the dr is the only suggestion I have.

Let us know how this all goes.

That's exactally what he is doing

I swear it is scaring the life out of me.
I do know I won't stand for it but I would really like to know why a loving
pet would threaten the hand that feeds him and gives him love 24/7.
Good luck with Reese I think you have to get a handle on the situation also. Thanks for replying.

I am sorry this is happening. I wonder if he is having nightmares. Buddy sounds like such a sweet dog I dont think he is doing it on purpose. Chachi growled at My Daughter once but she had hurt him. We went through a period with him with food aggression too

My oldest, JPop, who is a 3 year old male also, does this to some extent. He like to sleep under his fleece blanket on top of our covers, between us. If one of the other dogs, or us and he thinks its one of the dogs, he growls and snaps under his cover. When we tell him its alright, go back nite-nite, he seems ok with it and settles back down. I think some of them just don't want to be bothered when they sleep.

I knew what you meant. Yes he dosen't like to be bothered when he
is sleeping but we can't help it when we move at night. I also, at times,
have my granddaughter who he loves dearly sleep over and I can not take
the chance he would snap at her in the dark. For sure he would be a gonner.
I don't want that to ever happen so I guess it's his bed tonight and thereafter. I love this dog so much it really is getting to me as to why
he would even do such a thing after 2ys of sleeping together. I feel really
stressed over this situation. Thanks for your reply

I'm sorry you are having trouble and don't have a solution just wanted to tell you you're not alone. ZsaZsa will growl at Windsor if he gets to close when she is sleeping but hasn't done this to me (yet). You are probably doing the right thing letting him sleep in his own bed and establishing your role as Alpha. Good luck

Hmmm...I know Vixxen does not like her back touched when she is sleeping! She will turn around with the growl and the teeth showing! But I just kinda think its just how she is and ignore it! I mean, I don't feel threatened by her even though her noise and look can startle me at times! Now with the puppy, she does the same thing to her...but she seems to be more patient lately ? I don't know what advice to give if you are truely frightened by him though?

I saw an episode about this on the Dog Whisperer. A married couple would let their dog sleep with them and the dog would growl and attack them if they dared to move in their sleep. Cesar said you must NOT allow this behavior to go on. I honestly don't remember what he said you should do but I do remember he said it was very important to correct it immediately because the dog is trying to have some sort of power over you and be the alpha.

I wish you the best of luck. I'm sure things will get better over some time.

the shock of his life tonight when he gets to sleep on the floor in his
own bed and blankie. I didn't get this old by being dumb

LOLOL!! hahaha I'm sure everything will be ok! Just be prepared for some crying and barking! Tonight you're not going to get a lot of sleep but after a few days all your hard work will pay off.

The only time Skippy does even comes close to this is if he wants to be petted. He'll scratch his feet on the cover until I pet him.

Guess what?
All went really well last night.
I had to put on a step in harness on Buddy to keep him off the bed but
he was attached to a 6' leash. He made one attempt to get on the bed
and failed, my bed is very high, he only groaned 2x and off to sleep we
both went. What a good boy he is. As time goes on and he gets acustomed
to his new sleeping arrangement I will take the harness off him.
I only want the best for him and I know this is it.
