| Suggestions for New Puppy Arrival Since I'm a soon to be new mommy to Coco. I was wondering on everyone's thoughts of all the neccessities that I should have on hand before and even after I bring her home. I'm at a lost on the whole sleeping in bed with you only because I can hardly sleep in my bed due to my fiance is the utmost complete bed hog and i sometimes find my self sleeping on the couch after early monirn feed with my son Bruce. So I figured I would get a crate for her to sleep in and just make sure that I get a cover for it so she could have her privacy. But then I know a gf of mine that has a toy poodle that she keeps in an X-Pen (woohoo I finally understand what X-Pen actually is instead of me calling it a mini kennel) for him to sleep in piddle in if they are gone and of course he goes in when he cant be kept in eye site. So besides that what are your suggestions. I am open to everyones suggestions. Thanks so much for all your help so far. Mellisa |

| CONGRATS ! We just brought home our second yorkie, also named Coco this past Friday. She is so funny.... playing really hard and then passes out for an hour or more from being tired. Maxi , her new older brother, isn't feeling so happy with her right now. She keeps taking his stuff! Hopefully, he'll get used to her! Our breeder gave us a goodie bag with a blankie, little toy , piddle pads, all vet /records info and a bag of the food she is taking. I also brought a blanket , Nutracal ( we were driving a few hours to get her), a water bottle, water bowl, big towel, paper towels, leash, harness. Hope this helps some. Erika |

| Definitely get some Nutrical, a snuggly blanket and lots of toys. I use Cheerios as treats for Olivia. Putting your baby in a crate at night is definitely a good idea. You won't need to worry about rolling onto your tiny puppy and won't have to worry about night time accidents. I kept Olivia in a crate for a few months. She was right in our room but we covered the crate with a blanket... this helped her to settle down and go to sleep at night. Her first night in the crate was miserable and she cried the whole time but that's the only night she ever cried in the crate. Bully sticks are great treat and should help with chewing. |

No Longer a Member | Crate training is a great way to go. It gives them a safe place to sleep, and it helps tremendously with housebreaking. You will definitely find that an x-pen will help out. What I did in the early days was put her crate in an x-pen. She slept with the crate door opened, and pee pads at one end of the x-pen. This way, she could get up in the night to relieve herself. After several weeks, we found that she was no longer using the pads in the night. That is when we started closing the door on her crate at night. The first night we did this, she had an accident in the crate. So we cleaned it up, and went one more week with the crate door open. Then we tried it again. We had success! Since then, she has slept in the crate with no accidents. Here's a picture of the set up we used: |
