So it can be done! Good news. Now - how to convince Max of this fact? I have him leashed right now because he's still peeing in illegal spots, so he needs to know that Mommy has her eyes on him all of the time. He peed under a chair in the kitchen today - there was a pee pad 3 inches away. He spent 2 hours in the crate after I yelled like mad woman. I know you're not supposed to yell, but he can know that THE BOSS (me) does not approve. Anyway, since he's leashed anyway, I have left him leashed surrounded by about 5 or 6 papers and he will hold it for hours. He's always been able to hold it for up to 8 hours. The vet said it's okay. Maybe I should just leave him there until he just goes in the morning. This morning I gave in and took him out because I had to be somewhere at 10 AM and I had to crate him before I left. I know that going outside and inside only on the paper is probably very confusing for him. What really annoys me are two things - he was completely paper trained before he went into puberty and I know that some of this is just his trying to be dominant. Thanks for your support. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks, Judy |
Right after I signed off from YT last night, I put out about 7 pee pads, leashed him so that he was in the middle of them and he immediately peed! Then, (miracle) about 5 minutes later he pooped on one of the papers. I gave him so many treats, sang, danced, kissed, and carried on that he began to look at me funny. I left the papers down and as soon as he cried in his crate this morning, I took him and leashed him in the same spot. 2 minutes later, he peed! As a reward, he was allowed, still leashed, to hang out in bed with mommy for about an hour. We came into the kitchen and he was acting like he had to go so I releashed him in the paper area and he peed in the only spot that had no paper. It was right next to the papers and he looked really confused so even though I crated him as punishment, I let him out in about 20 minutes. The papers are all still down from yestrerday because I want the strong odor there, but it is so gross! I'm going to take him out at about 1:00. He usually pees right away or goes to one of three spots to pee. If it's cold, he's running inside before me. If this works, I'll be one happy woman! If not, I'll still get used to going outside and still be one a little bit less happy woman. I can't let it get me crazy, but I sure will try to have it my way. By the way, I got rid of all of my area rugs, including my bathmat. As far as he was concerned, they were simply giant pee pads and I couldn't be bothered trying to get the smell out. He's not really allowed in my bedroom where there are area rugs, a pillow area on the floor - pee heaven! I also sent for the fabric pee pads from Beyond Spoiled. She's having a sale. I like the idea that they retain his smell no matter how often I wash them, and I'm tired of spending money on pee pads. Judy |
