My mom and dad pay the vet bills, a few toys, training school, and they payed for the pup itself but i have to like go to the training. and if i want to buy him clothes or whatever its my money. Rex is MY dog not the family's. I have to walk him, and put him in his crate and feed him and wash him ect. but tomorrow i am going to Philli for 3 days with my school, and my rents and my maid r taking care of him. |

| i'm not a breeder or anything but i do have a 10 year old soon to be 11 daughter and i know that i would not allow her to have a dog until she's done with going to school. i'm an adult and it's very hard and very expensive for me to keep up with my coco and coco's my dog. of course my daughter plays with him and stuff but for a child to have full on responsability i don't know about that. i mean are you going to be able to be getting up in the early morning hours to take him out to pee?and still be able to focus on school?i'm sorry i know i sound like the typical parent it's just that i'm very strict when it comes to education for my girls and i don't want anything that's going to distract them or take away from thier homework and study time at sucha young age. 16?12?13? i know this is off topic but i was just wondering what's the majority age group on yorkietalk?

| when I was in high school I went to school from 8 to 3:30 then worked from 4 to 8. My mom did not make me but I wanted to save for college and to get a better car. I even had to work 8 hour shifts on the weekends. That is basically what I do now tha I am in college. it seems like I never get a day off from work or school. I also make straight a's or I have a few b's every now and Then.

| The dog, ultimately, belongs to the parents because a minor cannot legally enter into a binding contract and is no more responsible enough to own a dog than they are to have and care for a human baby. If I were a breeder, I would deal directly with the parents only for this reason. Regardless of what the child may promise, the parents would have to accept the total responsibility for the animal from a legal and ethical stand point. I had wanted a yorkie all my life, but I waited until my kids were older and I was working less to get mine because I knew that they thrive on human interaction and contact. It would not be fair to this breed to not give them that in my opinion. My 18 year old college daughter has a yorkie and I bought him for her, but she lives in private housing with 4 other girls and we picked a dog with a mellow personality that would suit her lifestyle. Santa Barbara is very dog friendly thank goodness and she is a photograper so Buddha goes everywhere with her!! He is tiny and the best, most well behaved yorkie. Hefner would never work in that environment. Buddha is never home alone and they come home most weekends. My 17 year old also has a yorkie, but she is in school everyday so Chai is my responsibility a lot of the time. When Amy is home she cares for Chai, but a lot of the responsibility falls to me because yorkies are so "needy" and thrive on human contact and interaction. I accept full responsibility for Chai and Buddha because my daughters do not have the where with all at this stage in their lives to be financially responsible for another life. I am lucky enough to be able to provide the very best care for them and their dogs. I think 12 is too young to be solely responsible for a dog as small, fragile and demanding as a yorkie. They are truly like babies, not dogs. I would not let a 12 year old babysit a newborn baby and, therefore, I would not let them be the sole responsibility for a yorkie baby puppy. To me, it is the same since yorkie puppies demand 24/7 attention and care in my opinion. If a parent were willing to be the primary care giver with the daughter assisting while supervised, that would probably work well. JMHO. |

| Well my parents would be paying for my college too but I got scholarships, so there is no need. I need money however to live on. I do not live with my parents anymore, they live 3 hours away. And my car was a 1998 sunfire, I just want to get a VW beetle becuse I always wanted one and my parents said they would help pay for it but not all the way becuase I already had a car.
