| Spay / Neuter Costs and other questions... Hi Everyone: I was wondering what the cost were for spaying / neutering for your Yorkie. I know that the anesthesia is more expensive and that because they are so small more-than-average blood work needs to be done on them. I'm also planning on microchipping and having any baby teeth pulled. If anyone has gotten all or part of this done and wouldn't mind sharing the cost estimate and (if it's not too personal) their location (I feel like San Francisco is a bit expensive), I'd really appreciate it. I'm asking this info. because even though I don't have a puppy yet, I want to budget and be aware of all of the extra first year costs: shots, spay/neuter, puppy classes, basic obedience, toys, food, etc. While I'm on the topic, does anyone have pet insurance and if so, is it worth it? Your advice and experiences are really appreciated! Thanks!! |

| It's very wise to plan the cost of the puppy (I think the first year of puppy's life is most expensive...) but remember there are also emergencies (I hope you won't experience that part). In the first 4 months owning Pepper his expenses 'cost' me more than I paid for him, and we know Yorkies aren't cheap. He did have one emergency stay - after a toxic vaccine. Well, answering your question though, he was neutered yesterday and the cost was very reasonable, bloodwork 67 $ and neuter 167 $ (the vet flushed his tear ducts as well). I skipped microchip and he didn't need any teeth pulled - that would make the cost higher.

| Thanks for the reply! I know I can't plan for emergencies - or else they wouldn't be emergencies, I suppose. What happened to your pup? I've read some pretty terrible stories on the breeder review page - did you get a sick pup or was it just an unfortunate turn of events? So sorry for your earlier troubles, but it sounds like he's ok now!! |

| I have to agree, they seem to cost far more in the first year than anything, my little boy fell down the stairs, which cost me £40 for all sorts of drugs, and of courst emergency vet charges, then he ate worming pills, that the cat knocked off the work top,(stupid for leaving them there i know) that cost me consultation fee, and another £30.00...he has to have a series of blood tests done, one at the cost of £25.00 and another of £50.00before anything is done regarding he retained teeth... These little guys dont come cheap...and you dont realise what can be a hazard to them, jumping on and of the sofa can be dangerous....

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Did I just see this same post somewhere and answer ? you said you don't have a yorkie yet ? Prices vary all over the country. But since you seem to know your way around the site - there are a ton of posts about spay/neueter and all the other things you mentioned... |
