| Burweed?? Does anyone else have burweed growing in the yard? It is a horrible weed that has a top that looks sort of like a carrot top, only a lot smaller. As the weed grows, it gets terrible, sharp spines in it that detach and stick into whatever walks on it. It's not the round sticky ball things. On burweed, the stickers are nearly impossible to see...but they HURT!! If you think you have a patch (that have really begun to grow), press down on it with your hand (gently!!). You cannot see the spines in the plant. And these plants spread like crazy and are extremely hard to get rid of. Even if you kill the plant. the spines still remain! You must remove the entire plant. Since the winter was relatively warm for us (Georgia), they are ALREADY popping out. The best preventative is a pre-emergent type of control. It's sad when they get into the doggie's paws and they try to remove them...almost too hard to see when you look. I HATE THEM!! |
