| Dna Testing For Mixed Breeds THIS WAS IN MY LOCAL PAPER TODAY. VERY INTERESTING OR IS IT A WAY FOR PEOPLE TO MAKE MONEY. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK DNA Test Can Tell Your Mixed Dog's Breeds More on the Web Metamorphix Incorporated's Dog DNA Testing For anyone who's ever gotten a mixed breed dog, there's always that question. What breed of dog is this? We've all heard how DNA science is being used more and more every day. Now there's a company that can help identify the breeds in your dog. Metamorphix Incorporated has come up with a simple DNA test that can right now identify 38 different breeds of dogs. The test is simple. You just swab the inside of your dog's mouth and send the swab and other materials off to the lab. What you'll get back is a certificate that will show your dog's genetic makeup. "You want to know that certain animals are pre-disposed to certain traits related to that breed. For example, hip dysplasia and so the owner may then decide to make sure he keeps his dog lean because the weight of that animal has a direct correlation to how soon they may get hip dysplasia," says Thomas Russo with Metamorphix Incorporated. The test costs $50 and the results are returned to you in four to six weeks. The test will not be available until the end of February but log onto http://www.metamorphixinc.com/products3.html for more information.

| Hey it is interesting! I didn't know this could be done to dogs! I guess most of us here have purebred yorkies hence we could save the $50 for treats/dog food.

| It is very interesting and I just discovered it. I think this will be one that we can refer to if someone asks if we think their dog is a purebred! How many times have you seen that? Good post! Thanks for sharing it. |

| I am wondering if you can do it to yourself and send it in and see if they can tell if a human is purebred. Some people make me wonder! (enter snide remark here)

| This is interesting Lisa. I read on here at all different times throughout the day. Still, threads get buried before I see them. Just seeing this for the first time today. Some day DNA testing will probably be the norm for all dogs. Just as eventually, people will all get a nice DNA medical report. I enjoy reading all of the things they can now test for -- but so far too cost prohibitive to do on a grand scale for all us mere mortals. If DNA testing for dogs has gotten so reasonable, we can't be too far behind.
