| False Positive Parvo Test? Hopefully. Sorry for all the different postings in the different forums... not sure how all these boards work... I am a total newbee and already probalby annoying some people with my multiple postings. Working on it... I promise. Thank you. Please tell me if anyone you know or if you have read anywhere of a Yorkie testing positive for Parvo because of his recent vaccination. Meaning... could this be a "False/Positive"?? Did the fact that he just had his 3rd Parvo vaccination 7 days ago through off the test??? Yes, he was vomiting, yes, he had diarrhea, but it all looked normal .... not yellow bloody or foamy like all the parvo symptoms. Along with the fact that his diarrhea was a normal brown, his White Blood Count was high.... in most Parvo cases, the white blood count is extremely low . BELOW IS MY STORY... ABOVE IS THE SHORT VERSION AND MY MAIN QUESTION. Ok, I will try to break this down as simple as possible without breaking down into tears again. After many years or yearning for a yorkie, I finally purchased a 10 week old tiny babydoll face Yorkie from a breeder close to my home. We named him Monty and for 3 days all we did was lay back and enjoy his kisses. He was happy, very smart and full of love and life. On the third night, Monty started to vomit... seemed he had eaten too fast to me and drank a lot of water and his vomit was smelly and the color of his food (brown). The next day Monty seem lethargic and staggered when he walked... my first thought was hypoglycemia, so I got out the vita cal and he ate it all up. Later in the evening, Monty had diarrhea and again, it was brown, nothing scary like the parvo description of bloody yellow poo. I figured he had an upset tummy and that we were probably playing with him too much and that he was probably over stimulated. The next morning he was extremely weak and had more diarrhea over the evening, again it was brown, not bloody, nor was it yellow. We brought him to the vet and they ran some tests on him. His white blood count was high and his HGB normal, but his protein low. He had just had his third Parvo Vaccine exactly 7 days prior and was due that day for his forth. The vet enters the office with a concerned look saying that he tested Positive for Parvo!!!! Now, regarding my quest for help.... Along with the fact that his diarrhea was a normal brown, his White Blood Count was high.... in most Parvo cases, the white blood count is extremely low. Now the breeder does not claim that any other Yorkies in the same pen have it, nor does his sister. The breader also called all of the new owners whom she had sold yorkies in the past 2 weeks to see if any of their dogs were sick, and the answer was no!!! Just Monty. What are your thoughts, do you think it is Parvo or maybe a false positive... am I grasping at straws here? Am I sinking into denial and wishful thinking? |

| You can test positive after a vaccine.. Do not know about actualy contracting it. I hope hope hope it is not parvo. If it is whether the breeder has it in other pups or not it came fromt he breeder like that.Did the breeder offer a health guarantee? Quote:

| I sure hope that is the case though it sounds so srange. How is he doing? If he was caught early and is getting great vet care he may be alright. Bonnie |
