| Akc Registration Necessary? I have the papers for my yorkie girl. We are not going to breed her, as I have heard they are more likely to have health problems later in life. Are there any advantages to officially registering her? Is it just giving the AKC money? Any thoughts would be appreciated! |

| I personally don't think it is necisary unless you plan to breed or show. I have 2 yorkies that both came with AKC papers, but I have not and will not register them. At 1st I thought about doing it just so they would be officially AKC. But the more I thought about it I realized I'd really only be sending the AKC money for them in turn to have my yorkie on file. I really don't need my yorkies on file with them, I'd rather save my money. I have their pedigree that the breeder gave me, and I have the form showing their parents name and litter # and I am fine with that. They special to me with or with out the AKC having my money Last edited by Missy's Mommy; 05-17-2005 at 06:44 PM. |

| I don't know of any advantages to registering for a pet only. It is nice to a those registered papers though. Lily doesn't have papers.

| Was my breeder supposed to give me the pedigree? I don't think I have it, I think she said I had to register with the AKC to get it? I should ask her, I guess. Is it expensive to register them? |

| You have to register her first. They will send you her paper and then they will offer to sell you her pedigree which is her list of grandma's and grandpa's. Ya, it's kinda of costly. The pedigree isn't necessary unless you need to prove her lines for some reason. Actually her papers aren't necessary either if she is only a pet. But they are fun to have.

| My breeders gave me copies of the parents pedigrees, I dont have one with Missy or Max's name on it I would need to register them to get that. But the one I have shows their parents and grandparents (and greatgrandparents I believe). Nothing too fancy, its nothing more than I keepsake I guess. |

| Necessary or not . All my puppies are registered with the Canadian Kennel Club . When potential owners came home to take their pups , they receive a 4 generation pedigree , the microchip number sheet and a starting kit ( health guarantee , a little bag of food , toys and couple of wee pads ) . Registered papers are sent when they have 8 weeks , the owners just have to choose a call name . Last edited by Olivier; 05-18-2005 at 05:06 AM. |

| If I'm remembering right, the registration and pedigree for AKC cost about $35 together. Dana |
