I agree the prices are outragouis.
If you do a cost effective study on what it takes to breed a quality litter, with what potential new owners are expecting of their breeders.....$1,000 (average cost in Texas) companion yorkie doesn't begin to cover the cost of breeding, vet costs, tests, vaccinations, food, socializing, and raising of a litter.

But, most of us that breed for the love of the breed have been told we're nuts to do it.

Well I would hope 3500, 4000, 8500 dollars would cover it. Also I have read on YT where people paid alot and then spent 1000, 2000, 3000 on vet bills because the dog was sick or needed surgery on there "standard, show quality yorkshire terrier"

Yes, the prices you posted are outrageous and yes, you can spend a fortune on "standard, show quality yorkshire terrier" and have vet bills that are astronomical.....but, more and more the average YT buyer is becoming more savy and as I said, they require more of the breeders.

I will say that your reputable/responsible breeder will stand behind their breeding, with a contract that will cover congenital & genetic defects.

And hopefully, more informed potential yorkie families. I've seen too many on this forum....buying puppies from websites, just because they look so cute and then find out they've purchased heartache, vet bills along with a puppy. I for one would never buy a puppy without visiting the breeders facility and meeting the breeder in person, ask questions and have them ask questions of me.

But, as my vet says; it's easier to find a cure for cancer than getting a puppy from me.

I believe that a champion sired should cost more than those that do not come from a champion bloodline. Show breeders invest so much money to make those dogs champions and in most cases (always?) they do not win money but only a trophy. So if someone wants a champion sired puppy then this person should know that it will cost more.:)

There is a difference between being expensive and being ridiculous. For 8500.00 the dog better be a world champion. I have seen chocolate and blue born dogs advertised for over 5000.00. People are trying to scam uneducated buyers into believing these are rare and sought after. The crazy thing is, some people fall for it and that is why they continue to do it and get away with it.
