But here lies the problem, breeders selling for alot of money, over 3000 dollars and their not even show quality, not "standard" and they will be pets. Dont get the logic for the high prices. 500 dollars 10 years ago would get you very close to "standard". |

I think their popularity is driving up the price too. Especially in places where prices ae higher like Califonia. I agree I wouldnt pay those prices. I cant even Imagine paying more than $2000. I really cant imagine paying $8000 but I think some people buy into the hype. It seems like the higher priced ones are always the tinies to me though |

I'm sure it is different in different areas of the country. And...it depends on the breeder. If your lucky you find a great one with beautiful dogs only looking for good homes for them for a fair price. I was lucky. My yorkie is 10 mos old, 3lbs and healthy and beautiful. I paid a very fair price for her no where near 2000. I wasn't even looking for a very small one. My first yorkie that died last year weighed 11 lbs and was the best friend ever. He was so far from the standard it wasn't even funny. He was a product of bad breeding. He has so many congenital problems, but we loved him. He died from those problems at only 7 years old. We were bargain hunting when we found him. He was cheap. However, I'm glad we got him and were able to love him for his short life. |
Yes 8500 dollars is alot of money. You all are complaining about prices now but....... I think if some of these new dog laws pass that already up there price is going to skyrocket. I think This new proposed dog law is going to kill the small breeders. Im sure its supposed to be geared to hurting the big comerical breeders but its going to hurt the small ethical breeders. |
Forgot to add.... I know someone who paid 10,000 for a show dog, it wasnt a yorkie but when I heard 10,000... OMG |
I agree that the prices on some of these yorkies and other dogs I've noticed such as chi's, maltese, and the "designer" mixes are way high. Plus, so many of the places selling their pups at a high price are cleverly hidden byb's and puppy mills. I have NO problem spending up to 3,000 on a quality healthy dog from good lines, but I get saddened when I see tiny pups that are being dressed up and sold as toys almost for 5,000+ with no health guarantees and no proper health testing on breeding parents. |
Just went through all 2400 yorkies on puppyfind.com and found that the price ranges from 500-5050 dollars. Went to some of the websites that the more pricey puppies are on and found that the most one would cost is 8500 dollars. Whats weird about some of these pricey breeders, not all, is that they deal in 3,4,5 different breeds. One site had 38 yorkie pups for sale and bred malts, chit zus yorkies and chiuauas. HMMMMM |
