I went on the AKC list of breeders when I was looking for one. You will find them listed in whatever state your in. These are people who show the dogs, and are careful about breeding practices. |
After being in the For Sale section everyday for a long time now all I can say is some prices are WAY OUT THERE. It bothers me because so many dogs are getting priced right out of great homes. It cost NO MORE for a person who has average prices to raise a litter of puppies than it does for the high priced puppies I see for sale. Sorry - but that's how I feel. I would love another but the prices have gone crazy.:( |
Not only are the prices high, but you watch as the puppies get older and older. Still not having a chance to go to their forever home. Let the love and bonding process start. It becomes about the all mighty dollar. When I was looking I went to so many websites. Yep, they had a few litters and adorable little pups. But there was plenty that had a 4 mos. pup. A 5 mos. pup., etc. Those were still left over from some past litters. Cut the prices and lets those move on to new homes. |
it's crazy, i agree. you just have to find a good breeder im probably buying a little boy 3lbs at 6mo for 1000 so i think thats a pretty good deal, considering my girl weighs 11lbs and was 1100 hes a little older but i dont want a 12 week old baby because id be scared that my cat and other yorkie would hurt him:) |
Those prices are incredible! In the UK the average price for puppy with papers is around ?400, one with show potential around ?600. What's really expensive over here are Maltese. I was looking to get one but they were asking an average ?1000 per puppy :( |
The maltese prices are usually lower than the yorkies here at least the ones I have seen on the net |
? ? For some strange reason my pounds came up as question marks! Meant ?400 & ?600. Hope it comes right this time! Sorry:( |
now i'm stumped! Comes up pounds on the preview & question marks on the post:confused: Anyone else on an Apple Mac who can explain? |
I live in North Florida too, in Panama City and prices here are normaly $600 to $1200. We are only a couple of hours east of Pensacola. |
I bred my female to get another female playmate for her. I spent enough on her not to wanna spend it again! I got a little bundle of joy (only a week old today) for ALOT less! |
Yorkies in the Tampa area are 850 to 1500. I'll put you up for the night if you find one here you want to buy. |
I usually sell my females between $1100 and $1500. At this price they will be registered and they will have breeding rights. I thought about lowering my prices, but a friend of mine who breeds, said that lowering the price too low would invite puppy mills to buy and then abuse my babies. And I couldn't live with myself if that happened to one of mine! There have been some cases, though, where I did sell the puppy for a lower price, but without registration and breeding rights. And I knew the people I was selling to personally. One lady I met asked if she could send me payments a little at a time for a puppy from a future litter. Sooo... I did. We kept the money in a separate account and didn't touch it till the puppy was born and delivered, but it worked out really well for her, because she didn't have to come up with the money all at once. And I got to know her well enough that she is now a close family friend. I get pics of her baby on a regular bases. And when she flies into Houston and has a layover (she's a stewardess), she stays with us and gets to play with her baby's mom and dad. (Note: Her husband said he would give her the money in a lump sum, but she said she wanted to pay with her own money. She did assure me that she would not have any problems with money to pay for vet costs and other costs incurred when owning a yorkie, as I was concerned about money issues after she got her baby. I get real snoopy when I interview anyone interested in one of my pups. ;) ) I just want my babies to have good homes. Some are in it for the money and some for the love of the breed. I just love yorkies! |

Quality pets I think are in the eye of the beholder... I paid $750 for my boys. they are both AKC Registered, full bred and healthy, happy boys!! :D |
Oh I agree and didnt say that to be mean. And I love my dogs to death also. However Breeders who purchase higher quality breeding dogs and research their lines are probably not going to be charging bargain basement prices. If you are a buyer and you want a dog thats size is in the standard and a silk coat like I want for my next one then you probably want to buy from that kind of breeder. That is all I am saying. I am not saying you cant get a quality yorkie for a lower price but the chances are higher if you buy from a breeder that breeds to the standard |
Paying alot doesn't always guarantee a quality dog. Two of my nieces have yorkies and although they paid similar prices for their babies ( over a thousand), one has a tiny 2 pound perfect-looking yorkie, and the other one has what looks to me like a silky- cotton coat, longer nose, non-erect ears and weighs at least 14 pounds. Cute as a button and sweet as pie, but she does not look anything like a yorkie to me. My husband said he paid 500 for my boy, (but that could mean anywhere between 700-1200- DH is known to fudge on the facts when it comes to money!). Jazz has a darling face, but his ears are large for a yorkie and he weighs between 7 and 8 pounds. I think he's perfect, but I know he's not show quality, nor do I aspire to that quality in a pet. I think your best bet is to choose a breeder carefully, and maybe get references from past pet purchasers to see if the qualities you are looking for are really there in the pets once they leave puppyhood. Saving for a yorkie takes a while for most people. You can't just get the price of the dog, but you have save for vet bills, expensive food, pet products, medications, and all those cute outfits. You all know how expensive they are to own. I wish Yorkies weren't so expensive. I have had lots of people tell me they want a yorkie, but can't afford one. That makes me feel dreadful.:( |
