Groomer returned wrong yorkie I have a good friend that is also a breeder of yorkie's. She told me a story about a women calling her and asking if she had any female puppies left for sale. The lady was crying hysterically and my girl friend asked her what was wrong. She said she had taken her yorkie to the groomers and apparently they gave her yorkie to the wrong person. The man that took her by mistake stopped at the store on his way home and when he opened his car door she jumped out, ran into the street and got ran over and killed. I just couldn't believe something like this could happen. I mean I know yorkie's coloring can change alot, but how could you not know that you were taking home the wrong dog. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this happening and if so how do you think you could prevent it. Now I'm scared to take my girls to the groomers. |
OMG! I can't believe this. That poor girl! I'm so sorry this happened. |
What a horrible accident because TWO people didn't know the Yorkie! What the heck is wrong with both the groomer and the owner!? I don't understand how the owner couldn't know his own dog either. And how could the groomer bring the wrong dog to him in the first place? Even if she had more than one Yorkie, they should be placed in a kennel with the ID card on the kennel. My heart goes out to the real owner.. I'm so sorry to read about her plight. |
That's just crazy! I'm surprised the man who took her didn't notice it wasn't the right dog. I couldn't imagine.. :( |
I'm so afraid to take my dogs to the groomers. My male, about a year and a half has never gone. I do my best to groom myself. I feel its like dropping your baby off with strangers and I just cant do it. Am I the only one who is this paranoid??? My mom also recently told me a story about a man who took his dog to the groomers, he received a call from them later in the day saying "were sorry, there is nothing more we can do". He was like, what are you talking about, nothing more you can do? Apparantly they had the dog on the grooming table, I dont know the details, but it ended up being hung as I dont know if it tried to jump, wasnt being watched or what, but when they have the collars attached to the table.........anyway dog died. I would be soooo distraught. |
No, you aren't the only one who is paranoid. I used to take my cocker to the groomer regularly, but still haven't found one I like. She came back from one with little razor burns under her belly and I found out that another one drugged her because she was so scared she wouldn't hold still. I know there are good groomers out there, but for now I groom my dogs myself. |
A groomer drugged your dog???????? Isnt that illegal. I would be pissed to say the least. |

this.... is why mine dont go! My youngest daughter just started working for a groomer here and she said: "Dont EVER take ours there!".... I have always been afraid of how the treat them and heard so many horror stories, I just wont until I find a groomer that will let me STAY with them... that is hard, so I am taking lessons to learn how to do it myself! I feel bad for the good groomers in this world... why do some people have to ruin things for nice people... so sad d |
Call me a skeptic but something doesn't sound right with this story. I'll bet you either an accident happened when the dog was with the groomer or the owner and she wanted the dog replaced free of charge without letting the breeder know the real story. For the groomer to send the wrong dog home and then the owner doesn't recognize his own dog and in addition to that the dog doesn't recognize his owner .......hmmmmmmmm? I smell a rat! I also happen to have the best groomer in the whole world so maybe that's why I'm so skeptical. |
I'm sure there's some great groomers out there, but I've never taken Debbie to one. I think they are very easy to groom on your own. Unless someone has a physical disability, they should just do it themselves. My teenage son with no experience gave her a great haircut with clippers. If he could do it, anyone can. |
That is an awful story! I have been thinking of grooming Bailey myself (I used to cut peoples hair, so I couldn't be that bad) or finding a mobile dog groomer who will come to my house. Any input on mobile dog groomers? They would be in my driveway so I could keep an eye on them.... |
I agree, that story is a bit much, what are the odds. The last groomer I took Alphy too was very pet friendly. Only one big cage, but I think it was for the owners own dog, otherwise they all just kinda played in a little area, like daycare. |

I think this happens more than we realize. We almost lost our Cassie on her first grooming visit the same way, I walked in just in time. The groomer was no where in sight, she was in another room on the phone. No dog should ever be left on a table unattended for any reason. I always did all Cassie's grooming after that and now do all of Baby Blessing's. This is not to say there aren't good groomers because there are but one needs to have a real understanding with whomever does the grooming that they have the neccessary staff to make sure the dogs safety and well being come first. It is also as important to know ahead of time when a pet has to be boarded that the boarding facility is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED beforehand. I have heard bad things on boarding care too. We never had to board Cassie and hopefully won't ever have to leave Baby Blessing in a boarding facility, but have done my research on that and will be prepared. Patti |
Maybe they are just "saying" it when with the wrong person...maybe it was "given" to a friend or someone who was admiring it or possibly paid her for it???? If I was the owner I would want the body back anyhow just to make sure...say that they want to bury the body or cremate it..story sounds too bizarre for me.. Dawn |
That is terrible, who is responsible for replacing that poor ladies yorkie. Kodak is like a madman when I go to pick him up from the groomers. He jumps around frantic at the sound of my voice, just ready to go and get outta there. So there's no way I could've let without him. |
OMG! what terrible things to have happened! Im glad i groom Pippa myself! |
that has got to be one of the saddest things I've ever heard. Bandit had his first seizure at the groomer. and they didn't know. and one time when we brought Tucker there the lady goes "Oh...I heard yorkies were mean." and then she called like half an hour later saying that we had to come get him because he tried to bite her. all she did was wash him and she charged full price - and my dad being the way he is paid it. we have a new groomer now who is the most wonderful person in the world. She sends home little doggie report cards with them, and she does it out of her home. :) PS - we told Trisha (new groomer) how the old groomer said that he tried to bite her, and Trisha said that all he probably did was try to bite the brush (he did it to her too) and she was being over dramatic about it. |
My husband forbids me to leave our dogs at the groomer. Petsmart allows has express grooming, the cost is $10 extra but they work on the dog start to finish and you wait for him/her to be done. The gal at the store by me does a fairly nice job, although I'm sure there are better out there, but the peace of mind of knowing I can watch is worth the difference in quality of the job. They look very nice when they are done, but as I said I know they could probably get a better job some where else, but I have not found anyone that will allow me to wait. Most groomers want them dropped off and then you can pick them up in three or four hours. Hubby does not trust anyone and just don't want them left alone. I have to admit though that I feel the same. I'd be a wreck leaving them. Elaine. |
OMG these are all horrible stories, i took my baby Sebastian to the groomer for the first time today, usually we get a mobile grooming service to come to our house, but we were never happy with the cuts. Anyway today i wasn't happy with the cut and was worried the whole time about him. It took 4 hours to cut his hair, i think it is really disappointing that they can't cut them while your there like a hair dresser, it is ridiculous! By the way you are in no way paranoid i couldn't relax for those whole four hours and almost cried when i left him there. Lets just hope none of these truly horrific stories happen to any of us!!! :) |

My husband is the same way, and honestly, so am i. My girls have never gone to the groomer, if we had places like petsmart around here where we could wait and watch them, i would take them for a "spa day" but we don't have that here, and all the groomers that i know of won't allow us to wait for them, they want them dropped off, and picked up, and i refuse to leave my girls with any strangers. I'm positivly sure that there are excellent groomers out there that care, and are responsible, but they hard to find. How in the world can someone mistake their own dog? That's NUTS!! Surely the guy must have noticed it wasnt his? |
yea I dont understand how that happened either, I know my dogs, that sounds too weird to me. granted, they look different after they are groomed ( better) but still...weird how he didnt know it wasnt his.............. |
I'm going to use a highly recomended mobile groomer. She comes right to your house in a truck fully equipped. She sings to the babies and they love her. One of my friends can't even say her name or else the dog goes nuts at the window awaiting her arrival. |
this is so sad..if happen to me.i can;t even think....:( |

SHOCKING to say the least, but, it does sound a bit weird! I know there is no way Toby would go home with anyone else.......he's very cautious of people......and to not know you picked up the wrong Yorkie! hmmmmmm, that would never happen with me or hubby! But if it really happened, I am so sorry for that person who lost their yorkie out of the irresponsibility of the groomer. She should be compensated! I always groom both of my dogs myself.......they are safe and I'm never sorry or regretful!:) |

I am sooo impressed there are men out there who are just as concerned about their babies. I thought it was just a mom thing. :)- I do not care for petsmart groomers in my area at all, but, if they have a grooming option where I can stay, I might consider that. Also, wanted to says to yorkiepip, I love the name pippa. So cute! |
