Practice makes perfect. Your Mom's machine should have a variety of pressure fee, use a narrow one. Set the needle position to the right or left of center to get the stitching closer (this tip has already been offered, but it is worth repeating).

LOL trust me i have ADD and i can use all the reminding i can get lol

I do not sew (almost) at all and I could never do that. They are beautiful...IMO-I like the colored thread against the black.

Thank you i was so nervous posting pics lol. I really don't sew either lol i took a reg class in jr high and that was it. I just need to make them look a little more finished
