| Guard dog Here's my nightly routine: I fall asleep on the couch watching TV with Biddy. My boyfriend works in his office until around 12:30 - 1am. He comes into the livingroom to wake me up to go to bed. Biddy barks and growls at him - she won't let him go anywhere near me. He gets angry & yells are her. We all go to bed upset. This is the only time she gets aggressive and it is only at him. Usually they (my bf & Biddy) get alone great - they're best of friends! I know she is protecting me, but this has got to stop! Any ideas??? (BTW - Tucker is clueless during all of this. He falls asleep on the floor in the folds of my blanket & then follows us all into bed like nothing has happened! I wish every dog had his temperment!! He's such a joy!!)

| Stewie doesn't bark unless I am sleeping and someone is coming near me. Even if its my dad or someone else in my family that he loves. Its strange, but I kind of like it because I know if I am ever in real danger he'll let me know!

This is true - I'm gald she would protect me if someone was really trying to get me (although I'm not sure how much damage she'd do!!). It's just that it really makes my boyfriend angry & then the night is ruined. Maybe I should be worried about retraining him rather than Biddy!!

| Chachi does this too. If someone is sleeping upstairs he will growl if you come into the room.

| Jerry is very protective in that manner as well. Last week there was a car at the end of the driveway putting something in our mailbox....he was barking and growling...he seems to think he's a guard dog sometimes |

| Mia's a guard dog too, in a good way. She will let us know when somebody is walking in front of our house, or when the paperboy delivers the paper, when she sees another animal outside or when somebody rings the doorbell. BUT, it's a different story when they actually enter the house, she is sooooo excited to see them. She's all bark, no action

| I have 1 that doesn't want anyone in my "space". She sounds like she is going to kill the intruder (even though its hubby). She is only this way with me. The best remedy I have is to make her get down from beside me. If you tell them things like "its ok, its just daddy" or try to calm them it sends them a positive message that its ok to do the behavior. With my clan if there is any noise that doesn't belong there is a thunder of barking sound. I don't think I will get robbed in the middle of the night. LOL |

| This is a semi-educated guess, but I think it may be that she's not guarding you so much at protecting her spot in the pack. If she's sleeping beside you then she's you're equal. When your boyfriend comes along to wake you he's a threat to the pecking order. Tucker doesn't get involved because he's below you and as such, below you and Biddy. I'm only guessing this because I've been told this is the reason not to along your dog to sleep in your bed. If you're the leader and they get to sleep beside you, then they are an equal in their minds. Then again, I could be completely wrong Tom |

| You might try having your boyfriend bring the dog a lil treat. My Dad accidently stepped on one of my s**tzu's paws when he was a pup. The dog didn't like him after that. Even baccon could not change that dog's mind. *giggle* |

| Remmy does this too...but according to my trainer that I use...your dog should not be aggressive with any family member period...unless that person is hurting them. |

It's not really aggressive (I guess I shouldn't have used that word) - it's just barking and sometimes low growling. She would never bite or snap at anyone.

| I too agree that Maddiesdad is right on. She needs to learn her place in the pack, and that he is alpha in the house. Simon will do this to my other dog occassionally from the bed and that's the instant he gets tossed off the bed onto his bratty little but! Definitely something I would curb if possible, you wouldn't ant that escalting. Best of luck Jeni |
