Flea and tick meds for puppy? Hello, I have a ten week old yorkie named Libby. I will attempt to attach pictures, but this website I do not consider user friendly. I know the flea and tick meds, like frontline plus and/or revolution, are not supposed to be used until after 12 weeks old. However, most of the meds say for "up to 22 lbs," and Libby will max out at four pounds if we are lucky. Has anyone used either of the two meds I mentioned safely?

Revolution Hi, I have two yorkies, both boys. I have used the Revolution on them since they were about 2.5 pounds. There is a revolution that comes in a purple package for those under 10 pounds. I would not use on a pup that is 2 pounds or under without vet approval. I love Revolution, it takes care of heartworm, fleas, ticks and mites and even sarcoptic mange, which one of my boys had when I got him. No messing with giving them pills for the heartworm, it is relatively inexpensive, I pay $35 for 3 months at my vets.

| Lily is 3 months old and 4 pounds. I have been using Frontline on her for a month. Don't seem to be having any problems.

I have been researching this exhaustively. You can get Revolution and Frontline Plus (be sure it's the Plus) online for significantly cheaper than from the vet, even including shipping (and, the vet will charge tax, typically online you don't pay tax). Revolution works against heartworm, Frontline Plus does not. That's the major difference. Also, I have heard that if ticks are not your main concern, you can use both of them once every two months instead of monthly. They will just get somewhat less effective with ticks during the second month. But, I think vets always push things to the max. I do NOT give my cats distemper vacs every year. I don't buy that they need it that often, or that it does not cause other risks. Look what happened with rabies. Some say you need it yearly, some every three years. I recently asked my vet about the discrepancy, and he said that the shot is the same, it's the local laws that determine how often it's needed. I will NOT risk an injection site sarcoma because some jerk govermental idiot thinks I should give rabies yearly to indoor cats. Nope. Of course, dogs are more at risk for both heartworm and rabies. My vet said even fleas are not much of a problem in MN, unless your pet comes directly into contact with another host animal. Fleas aren't just laying in the dirt up here, like they do in the south (or so I hear). I just try to keep in mind that what we are putting on our animals IS A PESTICIDE and DOES ABSORB into their skin. That is scary.

Also, with Revolution you need a vet to call in a prescription. With Frontline Plus, you do not. Then you have to dose heartworm preventative separately. I just found Revolution for puppies and kittens! http://store.yahoo.com/entirelypets/revforpupand.html Here is the general page: http://store.yahoo.com/entirelypets/revhearandfl.html Frontline plus is on there as well. JUST BE SURE THAT THE COMPANY YOU ARE ORDERING FROM IS IN THE UNITED STATES. I just do not feel safe buying the "same" meds from Australia, which is typically where they are from. If the 6 month supply of either drops much below $45, check where they are located. I know a 6 month supply of Frontline Plus for cats at my mom's vet was close to $80. That's why she had me order online for her.

I use Revolution and it has worked great since Baby was about 12 weeks, but it says it can be given to puppies at least 6 weeks of age.

I have Whisper and Adina on Revolution but I think I may go back to Frontline Plus. Today I found one flea on each of them and some black stuff (like dirt) those lil bugs leave behind. This is not the first time I find fleas on Adina. I just applied it on them 1 weeks ago so I think it should be working already. Anybody else have the same problem?
