![]() Hi, I am new here and I have a New mommy Lia with pup she had on 01-08-07..I am wondering when it will be okay to leave her alone. She seems overly concerned if she thinks I am leaving the house, starts pacing and whining and then runs back to the baby...I don't want something to happen to the pup, ie suffocation etc since this is here first pup..Any help appreciated Mahalo, Lia's mom

![]() I don't feel comfortable leaving mine alone until they start toddling around the x-pen unless my husband is home. We are retired so it's not a problem for us..

![]() If you have a nervous-type Mamma, it can be "iffy". I check on pups constantly the first 3 days...then almost constantly for 2 weeks. Everyone is settled in by that time. The pups don't produce enough body heat for those first 3 days and you have to watch for them seperating themselves or being smothered under mamma or blankets. Just when you think it is ok to breath, it is time for tail docking and dew claw removing (usually day 3). Things improve by the minute after day 4 it seems. I have been very blessed and haven't had any problems. However, I don't have a nervous Mamma. There was a nervous Mamma on here that killed her pups when left alone for a minute. ...that was so sad and heartbreaking ![]() Feel free to PM me and I'll assist in any way I can.

| ![]() That depends on how well the pups are doing and how well mom is doing. I never put blankets in the "nest" I used unprinted news paper and kept a small heater in the room at all times, the pups could not get under blankets and mom could not confuse a puppy for blankets under her. Pups have to be warm for digestion. I had someone with them at all times for the first 5 days and then I only went to work for a few hours and came home. The first few nights I got up all night long....just to check.

![]() Thanks for your help, I am very nervous as the 1st pup was stillborn and mom tried to eat him. She is extrememly protective over the baby female that made it, it is 5.5 oz and very healthy, already vet checked, we go for tail docking and dew claw removal in the am.She continues to search for the first puppy, and is very nervous about letting me touch the pup. She seems to forgot that I am the one that stayed up all night with her and helped her deliver pup #2, she had a very difficult time.....5.5 oz is big from what I am tole..she only weighs 6 lbs. but is very healthy..I'll just keep biting my nails for the next few days and will be overprotectve of the pup I am sure!!! Wow, who had the baby me or her???Ha/ha mahalo and aloha, Michele
