Why does she sound like that???

I have never asked this question because I think it might be normal but I am alittle curious to find out what you guys think. Anytime Tinkerbell doesn't get her way like getting a snack or getting attention she starts to sound like she can't breath kind of like she is throwing a tantrum, she doesn't do this any other time She sound like she has a stuffy nose Is this something your Yorkie does or should I be worried?


I swear when my maltese gets near me and gets love from me she will start doing this like she is mad or something, if I stop touching my maltese she stops as soon as I carry her

If it sounds like she is coughing something up, it could be a flap in her throat. I don't think it is harmful; however, it can be fixed with surgery. Since I am not there to hear what it sounds like, I am not certain that is what your dog has.

Check out w/vet if you're concerned it's something physical; but, because she only does it when she's upset - sounds like she has 'mommy' well-trained

I think i will bring it up when I take her to the vet's, but like I said she only does it when she is upset

She doesn't sound like she is coughing more like she has a stuffy nose and can't breath I have never heard of a flap in the throat

I never heard of it either until my neighbor's dog had surgery.

I think Rocky might do the same...it's kinda like he's pushing his breath, or reminds me of when a human cries soo hard and they have short breaths. I think he does this because I tell him to stop whining, but he can't hold it in or something.

Grayson does this and the vet said it is a reverse sneeze. Kind of sounds like a asthma attack.

I dont think it has any thing to do with being spoiled, It sounds like she gets excited and causes her to Reverse sneezing .
Reverse sneezing is when the back of the throat spasms. The dog stands still, stretches out their neck, and often becomes bowlegged while they are trying to get air. It honks, wheezes, and often snorts during reverse sneezing episodes. Often the spasms will cease if they swallow a couple of times or if you close off their nostrils so it has to breathe through its mouth for a few seconds.

Other unique signs will differentiate tracheal collapse. If your dog breathes with a raspy sound or coughs reflexively when you rub their neck, they could have collapsed trachea. If the cough is one or two expulsive bursts, typically with a gag or retch at the end, they could have collapsed trachea. The most common sign is a chronic cough. It is often dry and harsh, and the phrase ?goose honk? has been used to describe the condition. Coughing is often worse in the daytime. You should contact your vet ASAP if you experience any of these serious signs.

Actually my daughter is asthmatic and it kind of reminds me of when she gets an attack, I didn't think it was serious since I have never really had any health issues with tinkerbell I will ask my vet, she doesn't do it everyday either like I said mainly when she doesn't get her way

Mine do this to more my male then my female. and mine seem to do it if they drink to fast or get to excited.

Thank You for the info on this, She only does it when she doesn't get her way and not in a daily basis, I never noticed her getting bowlegged or stretching out her neck
It really isn't like a cough it more like she sounds stuffy but no coughing but I will bring it up on her next appt to the vet .
