That being said, if you look at dogs in a larger perspective, even "big" yorkies are still "small". My sisters boxer weighs 75 pounds...compare that to a 13 pound yorkie which would be beyond the standard for a yorkie and that's still a pretty small dog.

However, you're certainly not going to tote a 13 pound dog around with you everywhere you go like you could a small one, but, you're not going to play with a tiny one like you could with a big one. I have two yorkies, a girl and a boy, my boy is 2 years old and weighs 4 pounds and my girl is almost 3 and a half months old and weighs 1 pound 7 ounces. I love them immensely and they are not "sickly" like many make out the tinies to be. However, I'm certainly not going to take my 4 pound boy out to play football in the yard and I can't just let him roam around wherever he wants if people are over. I have to watch him to make sure he doesn't get stepped on and nothing happens to him. With my little girl who is even smaller than Jaden, I mainly keep her in her play pen unless I am there to watch here. She is into everything and just like a baby will stick whatever she can find in her mouth. A small crumb of something she shouldn't have could kill her so I have to keep my floors immaculately clean and block off any stairs or places she shouldn't get into.

My point in saying all of this is there are benefits to having a bigger dog and their are benefits to having a smaller dog. I think so many people get caught up in the "purse puppy" they forget about the other things that come along with the "purse puppy". Yes, both of mine are small enough to fit in my purse and I can take them wherever I go...but they also have to eat more frequently, I have to watch them closer and if ANYTHING goes wrong, I'm at the vets, I can't wait an hour or two because they are so small you just don't know what could happen.

I understand your feelings towards your breeder. I find it highly unlikely your pup was 6 ounces at 5 weeks. Jaden was 4 ounces when he was born and grew up to be 4 pounds. Jewelina was 1 pound 7 ounces at 7 weeks. Sounds to me like she may have been misleading you to think she was going to be smaller than she actually is. 2.2 pound at 9 weeks isn't huge but most likely your pup will end up in the 6-7 pound range, maybe a little bigger. Or she could just do a lot of growing now and then stay smaller in the 4-5 pound range. You never know, the best way of telling this is by looking at the parents and seeing their weights and sometimes even that can't give you a great idea because there are always throwbacks.

If I were you, I would just really take some time to think about your life style and the time you will be able to give this dog and what would be best for the dog and what size dog would be best suited for you. If in your heart of hearts you really don't want this puppy because you really did a want a smaller dog and you were misled into getting her, then I would say you shouldn't keep her. Depending on the breeder and whether they are reputable or not, I'm not sure if I'd bring her back. If someone lied about the weight at 6 weeks it sounds to me like they are shady and now the pup is even bigger and no one buys her she could up up being a part of the "breeding stock" and never get a chance at knowing what being a "pet" really is. Maybe you could sell her to a friend or family member or even someone here on YT and next time you get a pup you might consider going with an older one say a one year old or something like that. That way you will know the exact weight you will be getting and there will be no one to be misled about the size of the pup.

I really hope things work out for you and your new puppy.

its not that they told me she was 6 ounces at 5 weeks...i saw her and weighed her. they left her on the mom to nurse and she shot up to 2 lbs

I didn't say you were a bad person.

I just feel bad for the dogs ....it just makes me feel bad that a tiny pound or 2 would cause you to not bond with her when so many people are dealing with sick little puppies. she may sense your feelings...which is why maybe it is better for her if you do ask the breeder to take her back.

I think you knew what people's reactions would be since most all your posts are about her weight - try to read them for what they are and don't feel picked on - it's just opinions.

Wow, you have other pets too? If that is the case, I can't imagine not falling in love with ANY puppy right away. When it comes down to it, what is the big deal how much she weighs? Lily is 7lbs and I still feel like she is tiny. If you get a "tiny, tiny" it may be too small to play with your other animals safely.

don't let people get you down with what they say. Some might think you might not love the pup as much as you would if she was smaller. But if you think there is a chance that they could be right then you should do whatever is best for the pup. (you dont love the dog for the size ,you love them because they are great to love):animal-pa I hope everything works out for you and the pup

I usually myself stay away from threads like this, i dont personally get involved ... but here are my thoughts anyway, If you feel after one week you dont want her anymore, she is better off getting a new home where the new mommy wont be disappointed about the size, you chose this yorkie obviously so you should love this little furbaby no matter what size she is, I also understand wanting small, I think yorkies ARE small, 4 pounds 6 pounds 7 pounds ...... they are a smaller breed .....I feel bad for this little furbaby, so i wish you the best in whatever choice you make, I just hope zoe finds a loving and safe home ... good luck .

Are you sure it was the same puppy? Not trying to make it out like you had a bad breeder but it is so incredibly hard to find good breeders these days and they can be very sly. When I was looking for a pup one lady showed me a puppy that was "5 weeks old" and I knew it wasn't. It was very tiny, and still had its dew claws!!:eek: She wanted me to believe it was older and then she was going so sell me one of her older larger pups and pass it off as the same pup I saw. Maybe this was what happened in your case? I'm not a breeder but have done a lot of research on the yorkshire terrier breed and it just seems odd to me unless they were starving the pup that it would wigh 6 ounces at 5 weeks and 4 weeks later it would gain 28 ounces, that's almost unheard of.

Just curious what are you means of action after you give the dog up are you going to do a trial and error type method where you Buy a pup........no thats not right.................Buy a pup............nahhhhhhhhh.......Buy a pup...............Almost, but you are 4 lbs.......You see how mean that looks I'm not saying that you will do that but thats how you are looking to some viewers on here. :)

no this is not my first dog, i have a 1 1/2 year old dog as well...and i'm sorry everyone thinks i dont love her because right now she is sleeping in my lap and just thinking about me wanting to give her back makes me feel bad. i'm sure its just the initial disappointment, which of course sounds horrible too. its just that i'm not as attached as i am to my other baby who i have had for over a year now...i am attached to Zoe, just not to the same extent...i hope you all realize that i'm a good mommy to my babies, and i dont know what i'm doing to do but most likely she will stay with me, and i feel like i will get crap for that too... :(

I understand you wanting a small yorkie... and since that is what "you thought you paid for".

I have 4 little ones (3 1/2 pounds and under)... and yes... they are what I WANTED... small.

Is it really that much of a difference? 3 lbs or 6 lbs? I'd take a healthy 6 punder than a sickly 3 lbs baby in a heartbeat. I know there are healthy tinies out there. But just all the precautions you HAVE to take with the smaller ones are scary. Yes, you do have to be careful with a Yorkie thats only a couple lbs. But a young puppy that's a couple lbs will grow into a good weight as adult and I personally enjoy that weight more as it allows you to get out and do more things with your dog. Do you want a tiny because they're so easy to take everywhere? What if she hates being in the carrier? If weight is so important to you, you should probably give her back, before she gets attached to you...I know it's not that easy. I paid more for Pepper, I admit, as he was supposed to be tiny too (yes, I was looking for a tiny, I admit.....). But, oh well, he kept growing. He's already 5 lbs at 7 months and I stopped worrying about his weight early on, he simply stole my heart. I'm planning to have kids one day within the next few years and I would never want him to get hurt because of his small size, so grow Pepper, grow! But if you know your heart is set on the weight and nothing will change it, the pup's better off back...

I am no tbashing you I am going to tell you how wrong the size chart can be.

My lexi at 12 weeks was exactly 2lbs which means she should be 4lbs well she is 7lbs
My Tori was 3lbs 2ozs at 11weks which means 6 1/2 7lbs and now is 5 and a half lbs at 18 months

Some puppies grow alot and slow down others grow slow and then speed up.

Then we have Candi who is very tiny and let me tell youShe isn\'t even 2 1/2 lbs yet but we have paid big in vet bills and I am not talking unhealthy.
I just spent the last 20 minutes going thru her file and after shots and puppy check ups. She has cost me $1094.27 in just emergancy room bills and $410.10 in vet follow ups or meds. She isn\'t even 1 yet.

She has had to stay all night because the very first time she went outside she was stung by a bee, because of her size she became very ill
She slide in the tub and became unconscious and couldn\'t breath
she was playing with my other yorkie and again passed out
she was playing with a toy shaking it it hit her head and knocked her out

The little ones are way more fragile than you could imagion.
