I did not read all of the above posts but I'm going to put in my two cents. I would not let any big dog be alone with my yorkie due to the fact that because of their size that have the ability to hurt the smaller dog so easily, maybe even without meaning it. I have been house-sitting/dog-sitting a Nova Scotia duck toller (1/2 the size of a golden retreiver) and this dog is very happy but aggressive and bounds around the house. I DO NOT let my pupp even stay in the same room as this dog for that reason. If things get even a bit hyper I take them away from eachother. My sister has a rottie. I lived with her for a year. One day she left me alone with the dog and the dog turned on me and had me cornered in the basement. This was because he went in the laundry room and got one of my sisters very expensive shirts. I took it from him and he snapped on me - I stood there for a good 10-15 minutes until I decided to toss the shirt to the side, the dog then chased me up the stairs. When my sister got home he was sitting in the porch pouting and she couldnt' figure out what was wrong. I didn't tell her about it because she wouldn't of believed me. A girl I work with had a Golden Retreiver for 7-8 years. The dog turned on her on Christmas eve one year (by turned I mean growled and bit her)... and the next year it did the same to her then 14 year old daughter. The husband made them put the dog down. Her hand actually needed stitches. Who knows what made this happen. My mom's golden is the happiest most dopey dog on earth - he wouldn't hurt a fly... ON PURPOSE! I hope this helps.... print out this thread and show it to your hubbie |

My dad's two youngest ones are from the pound and were adopted at 6 and four months respectively. So I speak from experience and not just out of wanting to speak. I have no problems with my children being around the dogs and I have a two and a half year old son. It's a situation where it has to be evaluated on a case by case basis. I can see where the poster feels as though it's a bit of a type of racism....the breed has gotten a total bum rap and no matter how good a dog you have people just want to think negatively. Pitbulls have also been blamed for the bad things other dogs have done. The spuds makenzie dog is a type of terrier and has done some damage and people automatically jumped to the conclusion it was a pit bull terrier. I saw this here several months back from an over seas poster. |

outside pets I just wanted to add that my mom's golden retreiver is a 100% outside dog. He grows a winter coat even. The dog loves it outside! We live in the country and he can run and play in the snow and swim in the creek and ponds in the summer. He also gets two - hour long walks each and every day and you will not meet a happier dog. |
2 Attachment(s) I have a 3 pound yorkie that is the love of my life, my son and daughterinlaw have a pit that is the love of theirs. I was a bit worried when they ask to bring Cletus with them Christmas, but I thought I would just keep Sawyer away from him. I was wrong! Those two played like kids. Cletus was soooo gentle with him, and Sawyer was sooo rough! I would never leave two dogs of such different sizes alone together, but they were just great supervised. I am posting a picture of them in Sawyers bed, and you will see why they couldn't share it together. Think about any dog you bring into your home, do your homework, be a responsible owner, and the dogs will be great.:animal36 |

My uncle had a pitt - INDOOR Dog - I really loved him but didn't have yorkies then and no internet so we didn't hear about attacks then - now - I respect them but I'm afraid of them. 6 months ago just one street away from me - 2 escaped their yard and killed a little boy. It was the 3rd escape and attack. (it was on the news and my neighbor told me the rest) but this was the worst attack by the same 2 dogs - & the city had them put to sleep. How sad is that ?? A family lost their child because of irresponsible owners. These dogs were roaming the streets so I blame the owners but I will NEVER let my girls around one - never. Why risk it ? It's no offense to the pitt lovers that we want to protect our own dog.... it's taking a big chance with a dog that tends to be agressive to let them be around yorkies - no one can say they aren't agressive because they ARE. I feel bad for the breed but they just plain SCARE me I saw one outside one day and froze. I don't do that with other dogs. |

Sounds like they had a fun time....so it was a great visit. I think that all animals no matter their size, shape or breed needs to be monitored with children. |
Why get a dog is you are going to keep him or her living outside? Sorry, just my .02. I think leaving him or her out as a family member will make him the first chance he gets turn on your Yorkies. Elaine. |

my sister has a pit puppy that is about 1 month older than Troy. they get a long to a degree but they don't see each other as much only because we have only had them for about 2.5 weeks. she chases Troy around and kind of bats at her like a toy. so i have to watch them so Moon doesn't hurt Troy. but i think they are getting used to each other. but the size is quite different. so we shall see how they get a long!:eyebrow2: :friendsh: |
