Nonstop throwing up @ 3am! Help!

What is making me the most upset about all of this is that I specifically told my mom to not feed him anything else and I find her shoveling steak into his mouth. My family members forget that he is a little dog! His body can't handle what a big lab could. They always tell me I overreact when they feed him people food. Hopefully they've learned their lesson this time.

The time is passing soo slowly until his vet appointment!

Ask your vet about giving him children's pedialyte (clear not flavored). My vet recommends it and it keeps them from becoming dehydrated. But always check with your vet before trying anything!

We're back from the vet! We were there for 2 hours (and $220.. this will be my first experiment with my VPI pet insurance)!! The vet also thought he had pancreatis, so she ran blood work on him. Turns out, he doesn't. Just a bad case of gastroenteritis (inflamed intestines), which was probably caused from the steak. She gave him a shot of antibiotic, a shot a fluid under his skin, and a pepcid shot. No food for him tonight and tomorrow she wants him to eat this Science Hill Id stuff she gave us. He also can have a quarter of a tablet of Pepcid AC for a few days.

Whew! What a scare this was. I'm happy it's over and my baby is fine. Thank you all so so so much for your concern! I appreciate it deeply!

Now, my last question.. anyone ever use this Science Hill Id food? I usually feed Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul.

Oh thank GOD your baby is ok and that is was nothing super serious! Just like I said I would - I have been checking back for an update - so I was very happy to see this post!

As far as the Science Diet goes - I have never fed that to my babies - I know alot of vet's push this food (even MY vet does! ) - Like you - I feed Chicken Soup

Give that baby of your sweet kisses for me - I'm SO glad he's ok!

What great news!! Sorry that Howie is sick but happy that it's easy to treat! I know you are relieved. Toto had that once and was feeling better in a couple of days.

Glad to hear it isn't anything serious with Howie. Poor baby has a sensitive stomach. I have no experience with Science Diet either. Sissy gets home-cooked meals!!

Yes, I've had lots of experience with Prescription ID. It has worked on one of my dogs, not the other two who have sensitive stomachs. I find that two days on boiled rice and after, a couple of days on rice and boiled chicken works better on my dogs (heavy on the white rice).
Gradually add the regular food after he's totally alright. I always add the regular food as if I was changing foods, very gradually.

We have been thru the Pancreatitis AND HGE (Hemoragic Gastrointeritis). The last time we kept the Gizzard on the i/d for months, it's really bland and easy on the digestive system. A lot of people say Vets only push it because of the money..be that as it may, it's all his belly could take and was a godsend. He was so hungry when he started feeling better that he gobbled it up. Be sure to keep him on it for as long as he has problems so his tummy has time to heal. After quite a while of doing well, we went to the canned Chicken Soup..then to the dry and canned. It's been a long road for the little goomer but you wouldn't know to look at him, he's doing great. Keep a close eye on your baby, I do know gastrointeritis is quite painful. Gives extra hugs and I will be praying on this end all will be better soon. Keep us updated, will be watching.

I am SO glad to read that your baby is okay. Pancreatitis is an awful thing...I lost my beautiful terrier mix a year ago this month to pancreatitis...it is a painful, horrid illness.

I hope your little fella is feeling better soon, poor little guy. Give him a big hug from us.

I am glad he is ok. Now all you have to do is convence your mother not to feed table food to the dog. What my daughter tells her firends came to mind when i first read this thread. My duaghter tells her firends (how do you disapline your child when you can't spank grandma.)

I am glad your baby is doing better. I feed my females the ID also after they deliver puppies. It seems to be easy on their stomaches and it is the only thing they would eat after delivering. Good luck with you little one. I wont be feeding mine steak or turkey scraps anymore I guess. They havent had any problems with either but if there is a chance they could get that, then I wont be taking that chance. Good info and I am glad to know about it.

Thanks again for the great replies!! I fed the Id to him this morning and he seemed to really like it! Last night we had a throw up free night!! Woo hoo!!!! We even slept 9 hours b/c Mommy set the alarm wrong!
