breeding This site is very interesting. I'm the one with the little guy that came from the wire cage. I do hope he comes around because he is so cute, short nose and just a darling. The little girl i got is adorable too. She also came from the wire cage, but luckily i got her bred with one of my friends yorkies. I will send pictures of all my sweeties when my husband gets around to downloading our digital camera on my computer. The wire cages should be against the law. The little guy , Marty has messed up feet from the abuse. |
Oh, oh, I should have read this thread before posting my questions! :( |
I sent and email to a website that had puppies for sale. I explained how I wanted to hobby breed. I got an email back that simply said: "I don't sell to breeders!" So I replied, "What are you, if not a breeder?" Do these people think they are so much above everyone else? We are all idiots and they are far more superior? Time for a reality check! |
They are breeders who don't know if your an honest person wanting to start out right, or a puppy mill in disguise. You need to take time and let a breeder get to know who you are. It takes time before many will sell a breeding dog to you. They can't tell by an e-mail. |
Don't be discourage , I took me 3 years before being able to purchase Kellie . I have known the breeder and showed some of her dogs . Some breeders don't like to hear the term " Hobby Breeder ". |
I have made the remark myself about not selling to breeders, but i guess i meant i don't sell to puppy mills. I just want to make sure they aren't mistreated. To me Yorkies and other dogs are like little people and it breaks me and my husbands heart to see animals mistreated. We drove 300 miles to get my two new dogs Marty and Princess a few weeks ago. They were both in wire cages and in a closed building with no sunlight. His feet are messed up and she is very timid, but they are both comming around. I now have 5 yorkies and one Brittainy. All in the house. I can't save them all so i have to stop with these two. I do have inside kennels , but they all get their lap time and outdoor play. I have a full time job with them, but i love every minite of it. They are our babies. I have bred my first yorkie twice and now have Princess bred.I guess that makes me a breeder. I do worry about things going wrong just like they were my children. It would kill me and my husband both if something happenned. But i also have two grandbabies on the way and i worry about that too. I'm having my little two lb female spayed next week and i'm terrified about her not waking up from surgery, but i've read if you don't breed them they could get cancer , if not spayed. My vet says sometimes when the dogs are two lbs and under that sometimes the ansthesia is worse than the surgery, that they have been known not to wake up. |
scary That is very scary. I had a male yorkie about 7 pounds. We had his teeth cleaned when he was older. He was never the same and I say it was from being put under. It was to intense or something because after that he had like a dog dimensia (sp?) When we brought him home from the vet after the cleaning, it took him about 3 days to come out of it. It was scary, too. :( |

My breeder told me once that it is easier for someones to destroy a reputation than build one. When I say that , I am not talking about you but in general . Breeding is not just putting a male with a female and selling the pups with expensive prices . I am not better than anyone of you . I studied the breed standard , went to several dogshows , ask questions to breeders , find a mentor is very difficult , showing Yorkies for 3 years with my breeder . She allowed me to have one of her precious girls . |

You're not silly at all...you just care greatly about ypur furbabies. Nothing wrong with that. I also worry about how long they will live and am petrified everyday that something might happen to them. |
Is anyone else having trouble getting around in this yorkie forum. I have to go to my e-mail to get my replys from people, so sometimes it takes me a long time to get back to someone. lol Then again i have been outside with my doggies today letting them play.I am really new here and i like all the info everyone is giving. How do you get pictures of your babies on here? |

I also thought it was a good thread. I sure hope i never offend anyone.I'm a little green behind the ears when it comes to raising Yorkies or even talking about them. I just know i love them and opened to any info i can get to help me be a better mom to them. |
Bigdog , you didn't offend nobodies . |
Maybe this thread isnt the reason she is gone??? At least im hoping it isnt..I thought it was going wonderfully!:( I keep going back to read and it doesnt look as if anyone was upset or angry...what could have happened? |
I'm relatively new to this site, also. We love our female sooooo much that we considered breeding her so we could have another. Her personality is adorable and she's a doll. It wasn't easy getting information from those in the know here. They told me to "do research" and that's what I thought I was doing here. Nonetheless, I bought another instead. I really feel like I should have bred her anyway, but I let everyone scare me out of it. I don't mind being told the pitfalls, but I felt everyone was treating me like some nincompoop! Are all breeders uppity with all breeds? Jeez, my dog is wonderful and I love her....what's wrong with wanting another? (Okay, let me have it!! I worked on my backbone.) |
That happens to alot of people on forums devotedtoyou and that the reason I started this thread:) I wanted to get those that were thinking of breeding to post without worrying about being judged which is what happens alot unfortunately. Weather you breed or not your female is YOUR choice;) Some will try to talk you out of it by making you think that breeding is 100% negative and others will just say you are iresponsable, but I have learned that its better to think for your self and do what you think is right for you and your yorkie..also,not everybody will try to worry you, some will help and give you the info that you need;).I am going to breed Jess and I have been judged alot for this, but I love Jess and this is the reason I want to breed her..her personality is wonderful, she is totally healthy and she is just amazing, how could I not want more like her;) If you want to breed your yorkie, there are so many ways of finding info...books,online,vets,other breeders..etc,the list is endless:) You just have to make it clear that this is what you are going to do and in the end people will stop trying to change your mind and respect your desition:) Now,if you begin to doubt over and over after reading certain posts and opinions, then breeding should wait because you arent ready;) Once you can read the negative posts and STILL feel confident about breeding, then go ahead. There is ALOT to learn on breeding,I started reading almost a year ago and Im STILL finding new info on the subject.I have my vet who gives me tons of info every time I visit and my oldest yorkies breeder who is in contact with me via e-mail and telephone so I feel very confident about this:) |
