| help. behaviour change I have a whole new yorkie! before this weekend layla was very independant... didn't need to be on my lap... didn't even really want to be... this weekend we went home to visit family... which isn't new... layla has been there before... we stay with my aunt.. our schedual is very different... but it has never been a problem before.. we had a christmas dinner with a lot of family.. all weekend layla wanted up and to be held.. the only thing different this time was she went to the groomer where they kept her for 3 hours... however even before going to the groomers she was VERY clingy.. and cried a lot..which is SO odd for her.. since being back home she is always wanting in my lap or any lap she can get in and seems very afraid that i am going to leave her. we are packing for florida and i think she knows something is up.. she gets to come but i think she can tell somtehing is different... do you think this "new" layla will go away? will she always be so clingy now? i hope i havne't changed who she is.. i love that she wants in my lap but i feel worried that she is always scared in insecure.. anyone have ANY ideas please!!! |

| Dogs are creatures of habit. Layla's routine was upset. I'm sure she does know that something's up with your going to Florida. All you can do is reassure her that everything's all right. Tell her she's going with you. It can't hurt. I always read how you shouldn't comfort a clinging dog as the attention just encourages that behavior but I don't know how you could ignore it. I don't know how old she is but it could be just a stage. Is she spayed? Sometimes going into heat can cause a change in personality. |

I was really ready to figure it was just her being in heat (she is 7 1/2 months old) but the nausea has me concerned. Any suggestions?

| Not sure why my message didn't come up on new posts so I thought I would write something to see if helped. . .

| Marcerella, I think Layla will get back to being herself after the routine gets back to normal. Give her some time. In the meantime, be sure to reward (with praise and treats) confident, independent behavior on her part. Remember, behavior that is reinforced increases in frequency.
