I posted at the same time as her post saying he wanted the $900 plus vet bills. I have definately changed my mind -- this sure sounds like the bum who stold Ace!!!! I agree -- Don't give him anything!

Kitty -- Did this guys number show up on caller ID when he called about possibly having your dog? No computer sounds suspicious in itself in this day and age especially for someone who has $900 to pay for a dog with no papers. Who would do that? If police will go with you to supposedly pay the "reward" for the dog, maybe you can get them to intervene and not pay -- just get your dog back with your proof of ownership. This guy may have dozens of other people's dogs too!

I was just talking with DH about this and he agrees it sounds way too suspicious that someone that just bought a dog for $900 with no papers would just happened to be listening to the radio when your alert went out when he lives on the other side of the state.

I am sure hoping the police come through for you. I would almost be willing to hire a private detective to go nab the dog back if you can track the man down. But the police should help you -- I would deal with the state police. They have jurisdiction in both places.

You poor darling. How does this guy propose giving you the dog if you could come up with the cash? Would he give you his home address? Could any of us Yorkie Talk members help with this if they live close? Just in case this isn't Ace don't stop looking for him locally. What did the police say?

Ok, I just called my friend here in Reno about police not taking a report. They cannot do that, that is against dept regulations! They can get in BIG trouble.
Oh my friend is a commander on the sherriff's dept here in Reno.
Make them file a report so you have proof your dog is missing. Also the breeder can send you a copy of the papers to prove ownership, or that you bought the dog. Have them scan and send it email. I would also call the police in the area the person lives in, tell them what happened and have them stop by to check on the dog and papers. If not you could have a lawsuit against the police dept. Call the newspapers and the local television station and tell them the police won't help you. They certainly don't want negative publicity! Also see if an attorney in town will write a letter to get the police to take action! This is theft, and if they got into your backyard it can also be tresspassing.
The attorney can also get the phone company to trace the call, I had to do that about 12 years ago.

I would definitly go and check out the dog that is 4hours away. If you don't you'll always be wondering if it was him or not. It's definitly worth a try.

Also, don't blame yourself. You didn't know this would happen, and your doing everything you can. Ace is very lucky to have a mommy who loves him so much.

The other thing you can do, is get a blood sample from the dog and have it DNA tested to prove that Ace came from the breeder you bought him from.
My girlfriend who is at the Sherrif's dept says she read about a case that they did this a few years ago....You would have to get police, attorneys and the vets involved.

Four hours is nothing to drive. Before you do ANYTHING other than deal with the police, you need to make definite contact with this man and meet him to see if it is your dog or not. Don't threaten just yet. he will disappear right back into thee woodwork and you will never see him again. Call him and act like you have the money and arrange a meeting to exchange money and dog. By all means, don't tell him you do not have the money.

Do not go by yourself if you do decide to drive and meet him. I grew up in Oklahoma and there is alot of nothing in between towns. If you do decide to go meet him, call the local police and have them go with you. Meet at a restaurant or something like that.

Something stinks with this. Don't piss him off till you have a good plan that involves the police. And yes, on the DNA.

Ask him to fax you a picture. If he does not have computer, a camera, or a fax machine and does not have access to any of these..............there is something not quite right about this. As far as Ace not knowing his name, well he knows you and your smell. Ace will not forget you in that short of time...........he'll let you know if it's him. I agree with another poster, DO NOT GO BY YOURSELF!!!! And make him show you the purchase papers he has from when he bought him...............there's nobody stupid enough to spend $900 and not get a reciept or something showing the dog's been paid for. There are crooks and rotten people who would have a dog and nothing to show that it was purchased and sounds like that is what your are dealing with. Hope things work out for you.

Oh this is terrible I hope you get him back. I just cant believe some of the things people will do for money these days

I TOTALLY AGREE Something stinks about this. First Ace looks like NO OTHER YORKIE with his haircut -no offense ....but that was one UNIQUE hairdo you gave him - and the coincidence of someone paying that much for a shaved down yorkie is pretty slim.

you need to see a picture of the dog before doing anything ...and don't you dare give that man a thing. I have a hard time believing this is legit.

Have you heard back from the police yet?? I would definitely keep a log of everything that is happening and if you were to go out to meet this guy, I would have the cops w/ you (or maybe follow you or something)....definitely get them involved some way w/o scaring this guy off and do not go alone.....It is bad enough that he "might" have Ace and want money, but he could also be some physco who is using this "missing/found dog" as a way to get you out there. I wonder if he would be willing to meet half way or somewhere in a crowded spot? I know the phone company can get you the number, it might take the police to get it, but it can and has been done before. Good luck and we are wishing you the best!

Thanks everyone. I have the police involved in this now. I can't say much about it but we will find out if this is Ace. The guy is suppose to send me a picture of Ace via email from a freinds house. I will let you all know if it's him or not. Thanks!

You WILL know your dog - and for some reason it's starting to sound like a hostage situation if this IS your dog. that wouldn't surprise me at all these days - people can really suck.

I just heard today that a yorkie was stolen out of someone's HOME in florida--someone BROKE IN and stole the 13 year old yorkie, who does not have his medication... :(

Well, I got the email and it's not Ace.:( This dog is way to fat to be my dog. I really hope that we find Ace soon. The other little pup that I resuced is doing ok. She cries all the time. I am thinking about taking her back to the vet. My husband said that she can't stay here. I am not listening to that right now because she needs me. He told me if it came down to paying money to get Ace back then to just cut my losses and move on.:mad: He makes me so mad sometimes. He isn't even living here so I don't know what his problem is. Anyway, the search is still on for Ace.

Thank you everyone! I am not worried about the money right now. The only thing I'm worried about is the safe return home of Ace. I told my husband that I didn't mean any disrespect to him or anything but I am lonely and my animals keep me going. He doesn't live here and so I see no problem with my animals. And as far as the little one that I found/rescued I plan on keeping her too. (What's one more that weighs under 2lbs.?) Other than her crying all the time (which I'm used to since Alexis cries all the time), you hardely even know she's here. It's not as if I rescued a Great Dane or anything.:p

Glad the police are involved now. This really bothers me that someone would do something like that to you. And with that wrong number, it just looks so set up. Are you in the phone book? Or is there any way to find your phone # by your address? Seems someone not knowing you would have a hard time finding your phone number, jmho here.
