| New to site Hi. I am new to site. I have 2 year old, 5 1/2 pound, female yorkie named Bailey. Have been looking through the forums and this is such a wonderful site. Does anyone know what is best to walk the dog with so she will not try to pull me, that i can better train her to walk beside me with? I have been watching "The Dog Whisperer", and would like to train her to be better on the leash. Thanks, Joan & Bailey |

| First of all Welcome to YT. Do you use a harness when you walk your Bailey? (safer for their tracheas) I have a Bailey also, 5lbs almost 20 mo Have you ever done formal training clases with her? They do teach you to walk your dog without them tripping you. When you have her on a harness and leash, keep the leash in the hand on the side you want her to walk on and don't have too much play in the leash. Praise her (give treat if want) and as she catches on give her more play in the leash. My dog caught on fast, and doesn't crisscross in front of us anymore. We were afraid of stepping on her Good luck

| Bailey and walks Hi. Bailey trys to pull me, otherwise she is ok. I am worried about collar and stress on trachea, but harness causes hair to tangle and mat. I want to teach to to walk beside me and allow me to go in and out of doors first. So she is off like a flash and wants to lead, and coughs because of pulling creates tension on trachea (she is pulling not me). She minds me good otherwise, and will obey sit, down, no, etc. I do have to say the Yorkie is by far the best temprement and sweetest dog I have ever had... Thanks, Joan & Bailey |

| Welcome to YT, Joan & Bailey, can't wait to see lots of pics of you and Bailey! I use a step-in harness with my crew. I custom make harneses out of Dupioni Silk and they come in a rainbow variety of colors. I have found (as have many of my Yorkie and Maltese customers) that silk DOES NOT cause mats and tangling like regular fabric and nylon webbing. There are many of our very talented members also make a variety of harness styles including harness dresses and harness vests. |
