Sissy is 4 lbs, 4 oz and stopped gaining weight at about 10 months. Her sister from her littler is 2.5 lbs and Sissy was supposed to be around 3 lbs. She has such a compact little body and most folks think she is a 2-3 lb by her size. I like the fact that she is very sturdy and solid!! |

I guess you live and learn. This is my first time buying and being a pet owner. I will definitely make better decisions next time. |
Looks like your baby will definitely (obviously lol) be bigger than what the breeder stated - but of course, there guess is only that - a guess  Or I guess I should say, an estimate. I have a 4 lb Yorkie. When I bought him they told me he would be in the 3.5 - 4 lb range. He hasn't gained hardly ANYTHING in a while - he will be 10 months in 2 days, so I think he's done :p |
Lucy is 1 1/2 years old and she weighs 3.5 lbs. She was suppose to weigh 5 to 6 lbs. They told me if you want a tiny this is not the litter. We still thought 5 or 6 lbs was really small. We did not care. I have to say I worry about her. I know she can get hurt easily. I always know where she is. I worry about hawks, owls, coyotes, falling off the bed, everything because she is so small and we love her so much. Luckily she is healthy (she was not bred to be small, she was the runt). She brings us so much joy and a lot of laughs. |
HiDawl, I know how you feel I bet. I was told kizzy wouldnt get over 4 lbs and this breeder charged me an extra 200 bucks over the other puppy she had for that one reason. she was my first yorkie. I felt just like you when kizzy hit 5 lbs at 4 months old. she is 10 months now and weighs close to if not total 11 lbs. I feel breeders cant usually tell for sure JUST how big one will bet but I feel that a good breeder can give you a better estimate than this lady did me if their truly breeding dogs for the lineage and not just for money. I wont even get into this any further but I will say this. I did want a little one and thats what I was shopping for and she knew it. Some people here will say, why do you want a small dog. well, I want what I want, and I dont feel like I have to have any reason. Kizzy is getting to be a pretty dog, but Maggie is 6 months and weighs barely over 4 lbs and cost 200 less than kizzy did. Kizzy is much more trouble than maggie. Maggie is a quiet little girl for the most part, tho she can get loud when their playing too a degree. Kizzy is so nosey, she has to know what everything is, how it smells, and why it was put there and she can jump up on furniture, but she knows what she isnt allowed to jump on, but maggie cant jump or at least she dont jump. One time she jumped up in a chair in the living room, she has never tried it again and she wont jump off anything if its higher than her. anyway, all else aside, I feel like this breeder just ripped me off for money and I will always believe that. since all that, I know for a fact she lied to me about several things like she didnt own a kennel and only had 3 different kind of dogs she raised in her kitchen in small cages. since that Ive learned she has a kennel some where on her 40 acres, just out of sight. she raises, pomeranians, chi, pekes, and some mixes. So i think she is full of something and I'll always believe she took kizzy from a larger yorkie breed and used a paper from this smaller breed that possible lost one of her little ones and registered kizzy under it. It does happen. I know that for a fact. good luck with your dog and I hope it dont grow like kizzy has if your wanting a small one. |
So when can you tell the pup will be a tiny?I am looking at one and 1 1/2 lbs at 14 weeks. |

Both my yorkie are around 3 pounds at over a year and a half old, to be honest the adult weight never came up with my breeders. I just picked breeders who breed to standard with standard sized yorkies and by fluke the both have ened up small. I just wanted healthy yorkies and decide to go for the best breeders I could find that picked ethics over size.... |

The Yorkie is a TOY breed -- so they are all toy dogs. The term "teacup" should not have such negative connotations -- it does for Yorkies because unethical breeders have bred such small dogs that they have put their health and the health of their puppies at risk. The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America has actually put it in their Code of Conduct/Ethics that breeders are NOT to use the term in any advertisement of their dogs. The unethical ones just do not belong to the YTCA. Your breeder sounds like one to steer clear from -- multiple breeds, advertising teacups, and now not answering when you try to get service after the sale. Although you paid a hefty price, don't feel too bad. Think of it this way -- what we pay for our Yorkies up front is actually a small amount compared to what we will pay over the long run -- the tip of the ice berg. They are like kids -- we will spend a fortune on them and they will be worth every penny! :) |
My pup is about 4.5 lbs at 6.5 months but he's still tiny, I'm always surprised how heavy he is when I pick that peanut up. Other people too, they usually guess his weight by the size to be 2, top 3 lbs. He wears xsmall clothes and honestly, I don't know where that weight comes from LOL. |
One thing that I have found that helps a lot with having a tiny dog is using a cat collar with a bell. I use one on Summer and it helps so much from stepping on her and also it helps me know where she is. When she goes outside I sometimes can't find her but I hear her bell and go to where she is. She is so little and slow. :) |

I agree with everyone who said you cannot guess what they will weigh when full grown because they are like people from the same family where some are tall and some are short and some are fatter and some are skinnier! Same parents - different sizes. I too was lied to and paid more for 2 of my 3 and both ended up 7-8lbs. Only Lexi stayed 3.5lbs and she is almost 3 years old. |
