22 RESPONSIBLE BREEDING STEPS by the AKC.

Every dog is the best dog in the world to its owner. Responsible breeders however, know to avoid "Kennel blindness", in other words, they take a step back and honestly evaluate the good and bad points of their own dogs before making the decision to breed them. The goal of breeding, after all is to produce a better dog. Examine your dog carefully. Recognize its flaws. If you decide to continue with the breeding process look for a mate that will eliminate or balance those flaws.

I didn't write this.....I copied it from the AKC. website. www.akc.org, under BREEDERS, then RESPONSIBLE BREEDING STEPS - there are 22 steps listed this was a paragraph from "Step 2". It really hit home w/me since I have been seeing so many threads here especially under "General Yorkie Discussion"
about "Nuetering & Spaying" and trying to decide to "Breed" their Pets?
For all those who have this dilema, I suggest reading all 22 steps maybe it will change your mind and give you some insight?
I'm not trying to offend or judge anyone, just trying to share more information in hopes that others will realize that "Breeding" is not as simple as it seems, a cute puppy lasts a Lifetime.

"Breeding is not a profit-making activity." Unfortunately, this is only true for responsible breeders.

you mean like how he KNOWS to poopie outside but he does it IN MY ROOM on PURPOSE and looks at me when I catch him in the act and takes off like a speeding bullet!!!!!
thanks for the post. i never considered breeding anyways but it sure is some good information for those who have!

Yes I think that everybody wanting to breed their pet should be required to read this http://www.akc.org/breeders/resp_breeding/steps_2.cfm. There are plenty of dogs out there that aren't up to standard (some that aren't even close). And those dogs are great for pets, but just bc you have a dog with a peice of paper with it's name on it it doesn't mean you should breed it.
