| Moping around.. Emma's sad My husband is an attorney, and left yesterday morning for a trial out of town. He'll be back Thursday...Emma took one look at the suitcases and us scrambling around, and put on her sad face. She's been really clingy with me, and is acting just generally strange for her. Typically, she wants to be in the same room as us, but on the floor chewing a bone or playing with a toy, or at the other end of the couch-so she's near but not ON us. Since he left, she wants to be in my lap or right up next to me, except eariler when I was doing chores and running around, and then she went in our bedroom by herself and laid on the floor by my side of the bed, in the dark. She's NEVER done that. I would expect her to get up into bed and snuggle under the covers, but never on the floor. All she wants to do is follow me around and sleep and snuggle, and she's being very watchful of the door and what's going on outside, giving low growls and the occasional warning barks at people outside. She doesn't really want to play-not sure if she just misses him or thinks I'm not as good of a playmate as he is since I don't "roughhouse" the way he does. I tried telling her that "Daddy is coming back", but all she does then is go look for him at the door and whine. I feel so sad for her, but I don't know what to do for her. Does anyone else have a spouse that travels for work? Anyone have any ideas of what to do for her? |

| Poor little Emma! Hugs and kisses to her from Maddie and I! I don't know what you can do for her, but I guess when Maddie was seeming so depressed, I took her to my Mom's which is one of her favorite places to go. I got down on the floor and tried to interest her in toys. I also had my sister bring her pup here so Maddie had someone to play with. It is hard when they are depressed and not their usual self! Emma is probably worried that you'll be leaving too...something about suitcases that can make these little ones worry! Good luck...I hope she gets happy again really soon!

| It does make me SO sad to see her like that! Her little yorkie friend that lives upstairs is on vacation at his Grandma's house 2 hours away, so she can't play with him either-but thanks Connie for the suggestion! I even stayed home with her today...I called in sick to work-I wasn't feeling that great, and I had a sick day to use before the end of the year. I thought staying home with her might help, but she's still sad. I was thinking about sneaking her into Target tonight...I need to get a few things and maybe the change of scenery will help? I'm not sure. I just went to check on her because she wasn't at my feet like usual, and sure enough, she's in the dark bedroom on the floor at my side of the bed. I have no idea why she's doing that. No toys, no bone to chew, no blanket to lay on. It's so weird for her to do that! |

I gave her a new "cheeseburger" flavor nylabone and she's working on that right now. I think that's making her happy! Dog park is not an option-too cold here for that this time of year, and it gets dark at 4:15 pm, so I can't really take her for a walk after work either | |

| I took her to Target and bought some stocking stuffers, some random groceries we needed and since she's so bummed, Emma got some new stuff too I bought her two satin nightgowns (I posted elsewhere about these, they're great!) and a T shirt that says "pampered" on it in pink. She was a very good girl the whole time, stayed still and quiet in her bag, and was pretty good in the car. She kept trying to curl up around my hip while she was in the bag though-she just wants to snuggle all the time lately! I think she was just happy to go with me. |

| Is she acting a little happier since your trip to Target? I thought of something else that causes depression in dogs and that is illness. I don't think that's the case with Emma since it just happened when your hubby left, but just keep an eye open to that possibility. Maddie came out of her depression and it's so good to have her back, but it took a while! Hey...good job on the satin undershirts!
