Yes the standard says under 7 pounds. But there are LOTS of details within the standards. Truthfully, MANY maybe even MOST of the yorkies here do not meet one standard or another perfectly. When you get one that is perfect within each and every standard, then it would be great to show them and breed them. But there are many breeding dogs that have something out of standard. Some breeders will breed to correct that deficiency. Some are even breeding to promote the out of standard trait -- like colors.

The Yorkshire terrier is a toy breed and to keep the breed as a toy, it is discouraged to breed over the standard weight. But..... there is no law against it. If someone is going to breed a 10 pound male though, they had better find a very large-boned yorkie -- because weight alone is not enough to make that decision on. Even an 10 -11 pound female might have a bone structure too small to safely birth the puppies. I would make sure to get a vet assurance that it would not be too great a risk to the mother.

Oh that is tiny. I want one that is about 4 lbs and I think thats really small. I bet you do the yorkie shuffle often

True, I love her more then anything. She is my baby, she follows me around the house no matter where I go she is right beside me. Not to mention she is wonderful with my 3 daughters and my youngest is 1 1/2 yrs old and she loves her.

Chachi my ten lb male is so good with kids too. I have a six year old daughter and whenever she lays down he lays down with her to protect her. Yorkies are wonderful arent they?

My dad and I share him. Because of the choas of 4 rowdy pups in the house right now, he's staying with him, but when he's out we have to 'slide' because somebody's bound to get under your feet.
