Usually a roll of the eyes will do it, I try not to get upset. I don't think people are trying to be mean, I think they know yorkies are cute, and just want to say something to get a rise out of us.

My husband felt that way when I got my first yorkie. For about 10 minutes. Now, he feels they're much superior to "dogs". LOL. It's funny how many men I've encountered that have that pre-conceived notion, and how quickly they change their mind when they see the terrier attitude and intelligence. The dogs I feel sorry for are the big ones that have no room to run or exercise. Ignorance isn't always bliss, is it. :D

I feel your pain. That happened recently with my Chi puppy. We were eatting at an outdoor resturaunt and our waiter was like "Oh I see you have a little rat dog with you, she's way to small, she looks like a rat" and so on (he said this several times during our meal and wouldn't let up). I didn't say anything because I didn't want him to spit in my food, but as soon as the bill was payed, I left him a quarter as a tip and when he asked me why, I said "I got a tip for ya, next time don't insult my my dog!" .

What an idiot!! what was he expecting a big tip for teasing your chi? did he think he was a comedian or something?

Now I used to wait tables when i was younger and that is abbout the stupidest thing you could do when you are working for tips

last summer, my cousins boyfriend said to me, you call that a dog..
well!!! me and my mom looked at each other and she knew someone was gonna fight.. so i just turned around a said to him.... " you call yourself a man) he shut the hell up right away.... mom says calm down gina hes just
a bald headed beagle...

I haven't had any strangers come up to me and give me rude comments (yet, thankfully) but if they do say anything like "he's not a real dog" then I will tell them "Do you really want me to go home and get my real dog who will tear YOU to shreads?"

I think some people have to insult small breed dogs just to make themselves feel bigger

thankfully i haven't met any rude people so far, whew.

hehe, my neighbor does call peanut, "killer". and that was when he weighed 1.5 lbs haha

I have heard many of the same comments. Most times I just laugh but once a man said to me: "both those dogs together do not make 1 real dog". I looked at him and said: "Thanks for that insight. I better contact my vet and tell them they owe me a heck of a lot of money, for treating my fake dogs".
