Has anyone said this to you and your yorkie? It never fails when me and my Kodak are outside or in the store, some idiot says: That's not a real dog, that's a dayum toy! :mad: I've heard this expression from all IDIOTS alike, including neighbors, relatives and people I don't know.:rolleyes: Then they go on to say, I hope you didn't pay a lot, or my kids or my dog could not be around anything that small.:confused: I'm like WTH? And in my mind I'm saying, that's why your azz don't have one!:D |
A lot of people call mine a "rat". I don't really care, I think they are just jealous. I just brush it off and move on. ;) |

yep.....I know where you are coming from! And I'm from the south, where Bull dogs and hunting dogs are extremely popular....so it's probably worse here! 'That ain't much of a dog is it!" "looks like a furry rat" "You need to trade that in for a 'real' dog"..........I get these saying from people on a regular basis! Then I come across people that fall in love right away and won't stop following you around wanting to 'buy' them from me!! Each to their own! We love our babies and that is all that matters! I just tell people...."I don't remember asking for you opinion." |
Alot of people with big dogs have told me that i dont have a real dog. I dont care they are just jealous they dont have a cute little yorkie that sits on their lap and gives them kisses like I do |
Idiots abound everywhere!!!! In my 'old' age I have learned to either ignore them or give them a big grin and say in a sweet but sarcastic voice, "Are you talking to me?":D |
Wow, I must be lucky because I haven't heard a comment like that (yet?). Even people walking their big dogs such as Danes or Pitbulls admit he's cute. Well, there are a lot of people owning a small dog in NY, maybe it has to do something with it? |

One guy said to me that's not a real dog, that's like having a stuffed animal, my dog will rip him to shreds.:eek: When he walked away I gave him one of these:thumbup: but it was a different finger. :D I do ignore people, but sometimes it burns me up because it is so rude. |

Ohhh all the time! My favorites are: Ew, who's rat is that? That's not REALLY a dog... Are you SURE that's a dog? Looks more like a guinea pig to me! You need to have children! Usually a roll of the eyes will do it, I try not to get upset. I don't think people are trying to be mean, I think they know yorkies are cute, and just want to say something to get a rise out of us. |

My husband felt that way when I got my first yorkie. For about 10 minutes. Now, he feels they're much superior to "dogs". LOL. It's funny how many men I've encountered that have that pre-conceived notion, and how quickly they change their mind when they see the terrier attitude and intelligence. The dogs I feel sorry for are the big ones that have no room to run or exercise. Ignorance isn't always bliss, is it. :D |
I feel your pain. That happened recently with my Chi puppy. We were eatting at an outdoor resturaunt and our waiter was like "Oh I see you have a little rat dog with you, she's way to small, she looks like a rat" and so on (he said this several times during our meal and wouldn't let up). I didn't say anything because I didn't want him to spit in my food, but as soon as the bill was payed, I left him a quarter as a tip and when he asked me why, I said "I got a tip for ya, next time don't insult my my dog!" . |

I haven't had any strangers come up to me and give me rude comments (yet, thankfully) but if they do say anything like "he's not a real dog" then I will tell them "Do you really want me to go home and get my real dog who will tear YOU to shreads?" |

thankfully i haven't met any rude people so far, whew. hehe, my neighbor does call peanut, "killer". and that was when he weighed 1.5 lbs haha |
I have heard many of the same comments. Most times I just laugh but once a man said to me: "both those dogs together do not make 1 real dog". I looked at him and said: "Thanks for that insight. I better contact my vet and tell them they owe me a heck of a lot of money, for treating my fake dogs". |
