| Gone for a week and worrying........ I have to go out of town for vacation next week and Cody is staying at the vets boarding. He has spent a week there before and done fine and they LOVE having him come there but I am so worried. I wish I had never planned this vacation but the tickets are bought and we have to go. I just need to relax but I am so worried that I will be sad missing Cody and that Cody will think mommy doesn't want him anymore. I know I need to go on vacation with my husband but feel so torn.: |

| AWWWWWWW! Don't worry! Cody will be FINE!!!!!!! Does he have a favorite blanket? Sleep with a blanket in the bed with you for a couple of days and then when you drop him off at the vet, leave the blanket with Cody so he will be able to smell you while you are gone. Also take his favorite toys. I am sure they will take GREAT care of him at the vet and he will get endless amounts of attention. Go on vacation with your hubby and have a BLAST! You deserve a break. |

| If he did fine last time I'm sure all will go ok. If you miss him terribly, call and check on him every day, that is what I did the last time I had to board my chi.

| I have heard that dogs do not have the same concepts of time as we do. Sure they understand daily schedules. We had a dog that went to set in the window about 10 minutes before my son got home from school. But their concept of 1 day or 5 days might not be different. I am not sure if this is true -- just what I have heard and read. But they do pick up on our emotions VERY well. So, if you are having anxiety over leaving the little one, he will pick that up and build his own anxiety over the experience. So, try to relax. We did leave two of our dogs at a boarding place called "We Tuck'em Inn" -- I called every day and was assured they were doing well. When we picked them up, they were very happy to see us, but they also gave lots of goodbye kisses to the lady watching over them. So, I think they had a good stay. I would not do it often, and only if very familiar with the facility -- but I think he will be fine. Go, enjoy your time with your husband and come back a more refreshed and happy Mom for your Cody!
