update on pet insurance Well i said i would let you know what happens with my pet insurance. As i think i said i got insurance for my 2 yorkies and my 2 kittens becasue i had a rottie that got Liver Disease and that cost me over 7,000 over about a 4 year period she passed away in march so i decided that i would get insurance in case (heaven forbid) that happens to my other babies. So i pay about 100.00 per month for 4 pets, i have a 100.00 dectuctable per pet and they pay 80% of my bills like shots, skin problems, spay, neutar, what ever comes up if they got liver disease they would pay 80% of my bills, however they will not pay for things like teeth pulling, anything that has to do with pregnacy, any type of things that happen that is common in the breed (bad knees) that is the only thing i can think of right now that is common in yorkies. So i'm not really sure still if it is worth it or not i guess it would be if they got hit by a car (well i think they wouldnt need a vet if that happend) or some freak accident some kind of disease (as long as it's not common in yorkies) I signed up for a year so i have time to decided if it is worth it or not i could just be wasting my money. Other people on a different message board i go to say they have a savings account that they put money in "just in case" it's a doggie savings i guess lol

Hmm, that is odd, because the REASON I'd get pet insurance is for Yorkies bad joints/knees. The rest really isn't that bad at all, if you take care of their teeth (give them Greenies) and after they get fixed, there really shouldn't be too many vet bills, save for a bad accident... Thanks for the update, rene, it's good to know!

hi rene! glad to see you're here too,i just found my way here. i have banfield pet insurance for my dogs, i really love them. i have a pamphlet here with me from my vets office so i type up a little bit about their plans. i just got it a few months month for my dogs and it's really great. we bought her the optimum wellness plan and the optimum puppy plan for my other dog. their primary care is $15 a month and they give you; annual vaccines, 2 physical exams, otoscopic exam, eye exam, tonometry (i don't know what this is though) dental exams, neurologic evaluation, cardiovascular evaluation, weigh assessment, coat & skin evaluation, abdominal palpation screening, urogenital evaluation, musculoskeletal eval. & pulmonary/lung eval. then they do a series of tests on your dog routinely, heartworm tests, intestinal parasites, annual de-worming, vaccine warranty (if your dog ever gets any disease they have vaccinated it against they will take care of it in the hospital free of charge) & then theres free office exams during regular hours. the basic care has everything above, then other stuff like liver and kidney screens and diabetes, cholesterol and pancreatic screens & blood cell exams and its like $19 a month. then theres basic plus for $27 and then optimum for $35. they do everything else i said and electrocardiograms twice a year and chest x-rays annually and dental flouride treatments. you get discounts for anything that isn't covered in the plan, like pre-existing conditions or if you want your dog spayed or neutered, its 20% off for optimum and then lesser discounts for the others. i haven't had any other pet insurance before so i can't really compare it to any other plans, but it's always a good thing to have. i don't know if there are banfield animal hospitals all over the states or how popular they are, but their website is www.banfield.net if anyone is interested.

Thanks Gwen sounds better then what i have and i think there is one by me but i have been to the same vet for 11 years so i really dont think i want to change but i'm going to compare the prices and maybe interview the other vets. I forgot to say that Jasmines baby k-9 teeth never fell out so she has to have them pulled and insurance will not pay for it. I'm going to have it done when i spay her Last edited by rene; 10-08-2004 at 01:42 PM.
