Litter box training for yorkies Hi everyone,
I am picking up my new Yorkie Jackson next weekend, I was wondering I live in a large condo with a large terrace completely enclosed with glass. I wanted to train my new yorkie to go to the terrace door when he needs to go. I will still be taking him out but since he is 8 weeks old and it is Winter here in Toronto Canada I thought I would pee pad train him first and then get him to go to the terrace door to let me know when he wants to pee when we don't go outside for a walk. I did train my female Yorkie Chiquita to go thru the cat door that leads on to the terrace and do her business on a pad and come back thru the door. But Jackson is very small and will not be able to jump on the step that leads to the terrace. Can anyone help me with getting Jackson used to going to the terrace door and later I will teach him to use the step to go outside himself.
My other yorkie Chiquita is pee pad, outside and terrace trained. How do I get Jackson to let me know that he wants to pee on the terrace and how old should he be when I show him the terrace door to be let out. When the weather is permitting Jackson will only go outside during the day and pee pad at night or hopefully the terrace.
I need some advice, I was also thinking of crating Jackson for a month because he is so small and I don't want to have him pee all over. With my other Yorkie I got her in Spring so it was very easy to train her outside and pee pad. But she really loved to go outside. Winters here are very cold for a little dog. Also what age do I introduce Jackson to outside? |
