| Our new yorkie, need advice I'm sure this post is repetitive to a lot of others that have similar problems, I just need reassurance that this is normal behavior of a new yorkie. We brought home our new puppy (I think we're going to call her Belle) and introduced her to Baloo (we've had him for about 2-3 months). Baloo was extremely excited and kept trying to get her to play. But if he came too close she would nip/bite him and chase him off, then she would run back towards me or hubby and scratch at our legs to be picked up. Of course we wouldn't pick her up! But still Baloo is keeping a mindful distance and can get her to play every once and awhile. But their play looks different than when I see him play with other dogs. Belle runs over and corners Baloo and he starts to lay on his side/back or just cowers, then she runs back over to hubby or I and the process seems to repeat itself. I feel terrible for Baloo, although he doesn't seem to mind too much he is more laid back and doesn't care that the girl is in one of our laps or that he's being chased off. If hubby or I leave the room where the two are Belle tries non-stop to get to us and whines if she can't. Of course this sets off Baloo as well! I need some advice in this area as well otherwise we're going to end up with two dogs that have separation anxiety. I know I probably haven't given these two guys enough time to get used to each other, but I need ideas to get them to want to be together. Belle is the one that seems to want to keep her distance from Baloo and have nothing to do with him, and he wants everything to do with her! Which is strange because the breeder we got her from (the same we got Baloo from) said she loves to play with other dogs and is really spunky...just like Baloo. I'm just assuming that her behavior is different because everything and everyone is soooo new to her. I just can't help but feel disappointed that things aren't going as well as I hoped, I prbly hoped too much :P. There are good things that are happening though, she does like to cuddle next to Baloo if she isn't in my lap or hubby's lap and they slept fine in the same crate last night (they're super tiny, Baloo is 3.5lbs and Belle is 2lbs). I'm soo glad this is thanksgiving weekend so hubby and I can be home with them for about 4 days to watch and help Belle adjust. I hope everyone is having a wonderful thanksgiving and I appreciate any and all advice, opinions or stories. Sorry for such a long post! And I'll post pictures of the two once I get home! |
