| Donating YT 3000 Club Member | its called Snow nose 2 of mine get it (not yorkies) Snow nose causes the nose to fade to brown in winter; normal color returns as summer approaches. Snow nose occurs mainly in white-coated breeds; the color change can become permanent in older dogs. It is not associated with disease. Technically called "hypopigmentation" (or snow nose, winter nose) it results from loss of sunlight, and causes the nose to fade to brown in winter; normal colour returns as summer approaches. Snow nose occurs mainly in light-coated breeds; the colour change can become permanent in older dogs. It is not associated with disease. Another reason for this condition is a deficiency of B vitamins, PABA in particular. Get rid of plastic food bowls and replace them with metal or ceramic bowls since some pets may be allergic to plastic. Plastic dish dermatitis can occur if the dog eats or drinks out of plastic or rubber bowls. It is triggered by a reaction to an antioxidant found in the dishes. pretty much the same thing Jen said lol |

| It's called "snow nose" and it's caused from lack of exposure to the sun. The reason I know, after we were in Colorado, Toto's little nose got a light brown spot in the middle. In a blind panic we took her to Alameda East in Denver ... to find out about that and to have her checked for any "defects". The doctor laughed and told us what it was and not to worry, all her dogs get that. The only thing, we have to watch for the other places that are black, i.e., her eyelids, lips, etc. She said that if the light spots appear in other places such as these, that it can be a sign of serious conditions. I just touch up the little spot if it shows in pictures!! BTW ... she was pronounced "perfect" .... they didn't consider a little snow nose a defect! ![]() browniesmom622 and I must have posted at the same time!!! Toto's has to be lack of sunshine because Miss Prissy Paws will only eat from glass bowls! What a princess!!! LOL

| Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | Wow.....Abbie hardly ever goes out, and her nose (so far) is jet black. I will definitely watch it through the winter months, though! I was told, also, about the plastic reaction. Someone cautioned me not to let my dogs drink from plastic, because it could result in patches of pink on their noses. I switched to glass right after we got Abigail.
